The Circus Comes To Town

Visitors were treated to another super concert this weekend given by live performer Mapoo Little.

Mapoo had created a circus top, complete with elephants, giraffes, high wire and trapeze, especially for her Cher concert here in London City.

Singing like a pearl as usual, Mapoo involved the audience as more and more people flocked to London City when they heard the circus was in town.

With 83 people at the concert, more than twice the capacity of our old sim, this was an extra special night for all.  Good company, superb music and spectacular show.

Mapoo returns to London City on Saturday 23rd July with an Amy Whinehouse concert.  Don't miss it!

The Sunday sim race was one of our favourites to date.  This time we decided to flood the sim and have a power boat race.

It was the start of a heatwave in real life London and with many of our visitors coming from england in RL, some water to paddle in was especially welcome.

Don't forget, its Amy MacDonald in concert next Saturday.

Have a great week, whichever world you are in.

London City's SL8B Destination Guide!

Here in London City, we were astonished when 73 people turned up for the ABBA concert night.

We had always been aware that the limit of 40 avatars on our old Mainland sims meant that often some people had to wait forever to get in, but we hadn't realised it had become so much of a problem.  Hopefully that is all at an end now, as London City supports 100 avatars at the same time.  This is particularly good news as 397 individual people visited London City on Saturday alone.

We are thrilled to announce that every one of our 65 stores on sim is now rented to the top merchants in Second Life.  This means that potentially London City has everything you will ever need in Second Life in the one region.

For those London themed parties, check the latest merchant to join London City, the fabulous London Girl store, selling Union Jack styled boots, dresses, leotards, t-shirts and much more!

To style your home with a British flavour, why not visit The Brit Shop which sells, Beds, Fridges, Rugs, Phone Box Shower,  Posters and other accessories for your home.

Which ever street you wander down, you will find it teeming with life and vibrant stores, selling the very best products available in Second Life.

This all adds up to making London City/Mainland London your preferred choice for London in Second Life.

Your London Weekend in London City

Last night a wonderful crowd of faces made it into Madame Lala's to see the wonderful BONEY M in concert.

It was the same Lala club but on our new London City Sim.  It was absolutely wonderful to see 67 people in the club at the same time.   On our old sim only 40 could attend, so it was really great to see that everyone who wanted to be in the club, could be there!

Tonight, The ABBA Party in Regent's Park.   Starts at 12pm PDT (8pm UK) with ABBA in Concert at 2pm (10pm UK).  Hope to see you there.    To be there, click here

Concerts This Weekend

It's the Official Launch Party for the new London City Estate, home of Mainland London, this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Madame Lala opens from 12pm PDT (8pm UK) on Friday with a concert by Boney M at 2pm.   Then on Saturday, head on over to Regent's Park at the same time for ABBA in Concert.

We Got Water

Now, I know that a lot of sims have water and that on the surface it's nothing especially awe inspiring...
However, the Mainland London Community hasn't ever has real sim water to swim in.

With squeals of delight, we took to the water last night and sat and laughed and splashed around.

We have all fallen in love with our new estate land.   We should have done this a long time ago!

Mainland London at London City

A bit of a rollercoaster weekend. Over far too quickly, but they say the best ones are.

On Friday, Madame Lala's opened for a great evening of entertainment with the wonderful Cher singing in Revue and on Saturday the Bee Gees of` `73 performed in Regent's Park to a packed sim.

Then by Sunday, Mainland London Soho had relocated to it's new home in our new London City Estate.

There wasn't any tearful good byes, as everyone grabbed their stuff from our old mainland sim and headed for London City, to find an exact replica of Mainland London Soho and re-rezzed their bits and pieces.  In fact it felt rather surreal.

Mephilo Tor on the mainland has been home to Mainland London for ten months since it started as a little 8,000 meter parcel featuring just Soho Square.

Bill and I had always thought that would be enough.  Ten stores and a chance to put our feet up for once and play in SL rather than work our socks off.  However it was easier than we expected and the 10 shops were rented before we had even opened and we knew immediately that we were going to need to expand.

Next we acquired land which become the Regent's Park shopping mall and the same thing happened.  Eveything was rented during the building phase.   And so it continued until we acquired every empty parcel that ever came on sale, evenually ending up with a full mainland region, 70 stores and 16,000 members in our groups and a large team of terrific and supportive staff.

We were so chuffed with the success of this community, but in the backs of our mind, we were also aware of two possible problems, both of which came to fruition early in June.

Firstly, being mainland, only 40 people could visit the sim at the same time, which is fine during a lot of the time, but a nightmare whenever any event was being run as the sim would fill and leave a lot of disappointed people asking why they couldn't get in.    Secondly, on mainland, you cannot choose your neighbours.  Someone can buy connecting land and arrive in your community whether you like it or not.

This was the deciding factor for us and early in June we formed our own estate, London City.  This estate immediately solves both problems.  100 avatars can visit and no one can buy land nearby without permission.

It also solves a third problem that was always going to happen at some stage.   What if we wish to expand further?   Well now we can.  We just have another region turned on and it is as simple at that.

I am mighty proud of our achievements on Mephilo Tor sim and I will miss it.  It was a great home for all of us, but in the end, our family outgrew the house.

Neither Bill nor I ever dreamed that Mainland London would end up being anything close to a sim.  We has just wanted a small area for a club and a few stores, but who are we to ignore demand? :)

We still have a lot of work to do on the new region.   All the buildings are done, but it will take another week of faffing around with the refinements to get it spot on.

The London City team check out the new boozer.
All things being equal, we expect to hold an official opening party for Mainland London in the London City Estate on Friday 17th June.

We hope you can be there.  You are the very people who made this all possible and we offer our humble thanks to our crew and the community that supports Mainland London and all it has become and all that it will be.

Didn't He Do Well?

Long overdue and congratulations to SIR Brucie Forsyth, who dropped in on Regent's Park today to show off his gong.

From 12pm Noon Today (Saturday) The Big Party in the Park is the BEE GEE'S 73.  Please arrive early to avoid disappointment as the old sim can only handle 40 avatars.   From next week, we can accomodate up to 100 in the new London City Sim....  but that doesn't help you tonight... so arrive early :)

Press Release For Mainland London

** Press  Release ** 8th June 2011

MAINLAND LONDON moves to PRIVATE ISLAND ESTATE.  Opens 1st July 2011.

Due to the overwhelming success of Mainland London and the sheer volume of residents  wishing to visit London Soho at peak times, we have decided to move to a full Private Island Region.  This will allow up to  100 avatars to visit us at the same time.

The new region is named “London City” and is an exact copy of the Mainland London based on Mephilo Tor, that you have come to know and love.

This move to  a private region also allows us to make some superb modifications that will enhance the immersive experience of London, including, terraformed land, sim water and lakes, off-sim exhibits and features such as London Zoo.

Another benefit,  is that no one will be able to buy land nearby without our express permission, immediately putting an end to the unacceptable, shady business tactics we have recently witnessed by Agent Provocateurs.
We will do our utmost to make sure that this transition is as easy as possible for everyone by providing new landmarks and advertising.  We shall continue to run the existing Mephilo Tor sim for a time whilst everyone gets acclimated to the new London City Region.

The Mainland London brand name will continue, but our new title will be the same as the sim title, “London City”, which you will be able to Map and Teleport directly to.   The new estate will be built on the ground, so teleporting will become much easier. Residents can “Map” London and Click the first destination they see in the list and arrive in Soho.

London City is open for public access throughout the building phase, but please bear in mind that we won’t be open for business until 1st July and that events will continue on Mephilo Tor until that date.

Thank you everyone for making Mainland London so immensely successful and we look forward to welcoming you to the new protected Private Estate.

Killer Cucumbers and Concerts

It has sure been an eventful Weekend at your favourite London destination, Mainland London.

Friday saw the delightful return of Demis Roussos wowing the crowd in Madame Lala's, with his energetic songs, including the show stopping climax, Zorba.    Everyone danced until dawn!

Demis Roussos Greek singer, best known for being the main musical partner of movie soundtrack composer and electronic musician Vangelis throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Roussos has sold over 40 million albums worldwide.

On Saturday, our friend Mapoo Little performed live in Regent's Park singing the songs of legend, Tina Turner.

Mapoo gave an incredible performance.  Her voice was powerful and sultry, as she boomed out the classics, from Private Dancer to Nutbush.

Being a popular destination, Regent's Park remained at full capacity throughout the evenings events including Mapoo,  Bar Soho and Madame Lala's.   As we always recommend that you arrive early to avoid disappointment!

Sunday morning's Coffee and Donut Kickstart saw the early birds gather in the park for the a catch-up on the weekend.  This early morning gathering is particularly popular with those who for various reasons were unable to attend the night before, but want to know how it went and if there is any gossip!

A Killer Cucumber was discovered at the Sunday Kickstart, but was promptly detonated.

Due to dodgy stock, the afternoons Coffin Race was held over to the following weekend, when an unfortuate side effect was discovered sending people a few million feet into the air.

By the time we had all found each other again, black storm clouds had gathered on the horizon and we thought it was probably time to take cover.  The sun was well and truly over the yard-arm, so we rode the bus to the Star & Garter pub, to start the evening off with a Pub Quiz and an old movie that everyone could either watch or pull to pieces.  The movie last night was from 1937, Will Hay in "Oh, Mister Porter".

You can see more pictures from this weekend by following this link

Mainland London has events every day of the week and many special events every weekend.  Please be sure to check back to this blog during the week for a full listing of next weekends Concerts and Happenings.

Another tremendous weekend, great company and a lot of laughs.   Thanks to everyone who visited.  Thank you for participating in this community and for making Mainland London the place to be.
