Springtime in London City

London City West

It was the best fun since Christmas, arguably event better!  There was no need to buy presents or to visit long lost relatives usually only wheeled out for weddings and funerals.

But here in the UK, four days of rest and relaxation with the odd tipple here and there, has finally come to an end :(

Looking on the bright side, the clocks moved forward on Sunday morning and we gained another hour of daylight as we were propelled into Springtime. It seems amazing that in January we were adjusting to night time starting at just after 4pm, whereas today, dusk will be at 8.03pm

And for many people, this is just a 4 day working week, so not long to wait until the next weekend!

Looking forward, there is another Bank Holiday at the end of April and by then, dusk will be at 9.10pm and here London City SL, the first of the beach parties is just around the corner!

Judith Durham and The Seekers

The Seekers are an Australian up-tempo folk/pop quartet, formed in 1962.

They were the first Australian pop group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group had Top 10 hits in the 1960s with "I'll Never Find Another You", "A World of Our Own", "Morningtown Ride", "Georgy Girl".  "The Carnival Is Over", is still one of the top 50 best-selling singles of all time in the UK.

Reformed in the late 1990's, The Seekers are still regularly performing.  However due to the ill health of lead singer Judith Durham, the band is currently performing farewell tours.  Currently The Seekers are performing in New Zealand, with other dates all around the world announced later this year.

Enjoy The Seekers in London City on Easter Saturday.   Party starts at 1pm SL time (8pm UK) with the show an hour later.

As with any online service, Second Life Residents may from time to time be targeted with phishing attempts, which try to trick users into providing personal information and account credentials.

These attempts may include messages - including inworld IMs and emails trying to appear as if they were sent from Linden Lab - that prompt you to click on a link and/or provide personal information.

To help keep yourself safe from these tricks, remember:

  • If you receive a suspicious email, forward it to phishing@secondlife.com and delete it.
  • If you receive a suspicious IM, file an abuse report against the sender even if the sender looks like your friend. After stealing an account, a fraudster often tries to trick the victim's friends.
  • If you feel your account has been compromised, contact Second Life Billing through the Support Portal right away. (Better yet, call us at the number provided on the Support Portal)
  • Keep your antivirus software up-to-date and scan for viruses regularly.
  • You can change your account password; do so frequently to keep your account secure. If you suspect you've already clicked a phishing link, change your password immediately.
  • If you have multiple accounts, use a different password for each account.
  • Never reuse your Second Life password for your email account or any other website.
  • Your password should be easy for you to remember, but hard for others to guess.
  • If you think you entered your credit card information into a fake email or website, contact your bank immediately!

Lab announces Faster Credit Processing and Changes to Fees

Effective from Tuesday April 5th, Linden Lab has announced Faster Credit Processing (cashing-out), and a change to the way it charges fees for credit processing and purchasing Linden Dollars:

We’re happy to announce that we will significantly improve how quickly we’re able to process a majority of credit requests.

Based on current data, we estimate that the upgrades we’ve made will allow approximately 75% of process credit requests to be completed within 2 business days.

In addition to taking time, processing credit and paying real money to users’ PayPal and Skrill accounts incurs costs to Linden Lab. Each transaction actually costs us more than the $1 (USD) fee we have been charging. To address that and in light of the significant investments we’ve made to improve the related systems and processes, we will be making some adjustments to the fee structure, beginning next month.

As of April 5, 2016, instead of charging a flat fee of $1 (USD) per transaction, we will charge a fee of 1.5% of the transaction value, with a minimum fee of $3 (USD) and a maximum of $15 (USD). Additionally, the fee for purchasing L$ on the LindeX will increase 10¢, from $0.30 (USD) to $0.40 (USD) per transaction

For full information about these changes see the Linden Lab blog here

Trump v Clinton Result

Last Wednesday we speculated that it would be a Trump v Clinton Presidential race and asked how you would vote.

Some very strong opinion as our voting machine only allows 150 votes (actually 149 for some reason), but first past to the Winning Post on Friday was Hillary Clinton with 85 votes (57%) to Trumps 64 votes (435).

Not since the infamous voice vote of a couple of years ago has the voting booth reached its maximum voting so quickly.

Remember this vote, because we will run it again in October a month before the Election (so long as Trump and Clinton are the nominees) to see if your opinions have changed.

Remembering Latif Khalifa

Latif Khalifa has passed away, aged just 46 years old.

Latif was a talented and major contributor to Second Life.

You may not have known him well, but you most certainly know the coding he wrote because the chances are, it still exists in a lot of the viewers we all use today.

Latif was the owner/developer of the popular Radegast SL client and one of the top developers for the Singularity viewer until he stepped down in 2014.   Later in 2014 he went on to create Replex Viewer a v1.23 based client, but this project was cut short due to poor health.

He was also a significant contributor to opensims which was his main passion.

His parter Kristina Deschanel, writes on his profile:  Latif Khalifa R.I.P---1970. - 2016.
Forever in our thoughts and hearts... The sky has got another star, that's going to light up with the rest of the universe. Rest in peace  my Love

We offer our condolences to his family and friends.

Who for President?

Yes, it may be a bit premature to conclude that it will be a Trump v Clinton race to the Whitehouse, but it took a substantial leap to being that way after last nights Super Tuesday result.

The results saw both Trump and Clinton win their respective party nominations in 7 out of 11 states.

So, if it is a Trump v Clinton Election, who will you decide?

The vote is just for fun, but cast yours now here in London City at the election booth:
