John Denver on Saturday

In a brand new show, this week we feature the magical voice of John Denver in Concert.

Denver known for such songs as, Annies Song, Rocky Mountain High, Perhaps Love, Country Roads, Calypso and many more shot to fame in late 1960s as the lead singer in The Kingston Trio.  He went solo in the 1970s and his primary focus of songwriting was about nature, especially in his beloved Colorado.   A complicated man with many inner demons, Denver battled both alcoholism and aggression.  He died when his experimental aircraft crashed in 1997.  He had lost his pilots licence six months prior to the accident.

Party in the Park starts on Saturday at 12pm SL time (8pm UK) and John Denver will be on stage an hour later at 1pm SL.

Johnny Cash on Saturday

There are few recording artists who are considered an example of  'cool' throughout their careers and remain there long after their death, but Johnny Cash is one such person.

The American singer-songwriter was one of the top selling music artists of all time, selling more than 90 million records worldwide.

Drug and alcohol abuse featured prominently in his early career until he met and fell in love with June Carter, who was independently famous as part of the bible singing Carter Family.  Cash said he had an epiphany when meeting Carter and his devotion for her made him clean up his habits and embrace the teachings of the Lord.   (Everyone say Hallelujah!)

Johnny Cash is best know for songs, Hurt, A Boy Named Sue, Ghost-riders, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, When The Man Comes Around, Jackson and Walk The Line.

He is appearing as a solo act for the first time ever in London City with a brand new show on Saturday and you are invited to spend some time with this great icon.

The party starts at 12pm SLT (8pm UK), with the concert an hour later at 1pm SLT.

Seekers on Saturday

It's London City's 9th Birthday and we're having a sing-a-long party with  Mavis Cock (who later became Judith Duham).

The Seekers are an Australian up-tempo folk/pop quartet, formed in 1962.

They were the first Australian pop group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group had Top 10 hits in the 1960s with I'll Never Find Another You, A World of Our Own, Morningtown Ride and Georgy Girl.   The Carnival Is Over is still one of the top 50 best-selling singles of all time in the UK.

Reformed in the late 1990's, The Seekers were still regularly performing until last year.  However due to the ill health of lead singer Judith Durham, the band has just ended their farewell tours.  This year a new show on Broadway called Georgy Girl and telling the musical story of the band has reignited interest in the group.

Enjoy The Seekers in London City on Saturday.   Party starts at 12pm SL time (8pm UK) with the show an hour later.

Another Bank Holiday and another Party

It is London City's 9th Birthday Bash this weekend and its happening over the Bank Holiday.  This sounds like thirsty work!

Brits are crying out for another Holiday, it has been weeks since the last one, so most of the country is looking forward to a long weekend, with Monday as the Bank Holiday.

This is the final public holiday of the summer, with the next ones being Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

This public holiday also marks a quick sell-off in the retail sector, to be rid of certain goods to free space up for the Halloween and Festive seasons.

There! I mentioned Christmas in August, forgive me!

So we can expect lashings of cheap grog and last minute sales from all the major supermarkets, with cheap sausages and burgers thrown in for the inevitable Bank Holiday Barbie.

As usual, as part of our public service, we've looked around for the best star deals on grog for this weekend as the boozy Brits sup their pints like there is no tomorrow.

And they are.. Peroni, 12 bottles for £14 and Stella, 18 cans for £14, both from Sainsbury's.

Carling, 18 cans for a tenner, from Asda!

That concludes this public service announcement!

Pracatan on Saturday: "I lub ewe"

Margarita Pracatan is a Cuban singer who found unexpected success in the 1990s.

Her big break came on the Clive James TV show where each week Margarita would play out the show, singing  her own unique rendition of a beautiful ballad performed on a Casio electronic organ, often with an unusually fast beat.

Now, in London,
she  performs a breathtaking show with an unusual orchestra.

A show not to be missed!

Party starts 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the concert an hour later at 1pm.
