Bremain

The EU referendum was the largest ever democratic vote in the UK, with 33 million people taking part and 17 million (52%) voting to leave the EU.

With just 9 days to go before we are due to leave the EU, this week Brexit is sounding more like Bremain.  Politicians on both sides of the house, are doing everything they can to overturn the will of the people they represent and to thwart Brexit once and for all.

You can make your voice heard by flying the flag of your choice, "Leave means Leave", or opt for the Tony Blair approach of "Stop Brexit", regardless of how the people voted!

They are available just outside the Freebie Megastore here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/102/223/24

Gateway Makeover

The Gateway is receiving a makeover as part of the "Spring refresh".  The new layout establishes the 'city mood', before new residents enter the main London City regions.

New users now have to opportunity to do a bit of freebie shopping in London streets, go charity shop shopping, visit the fair, or sail on the boating lake, whilst learning the basics of Second Life.

We hope you like the look of the new layout.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

Good morning, and how is your head?

A friend of mine once said to me, that if he woke up with a few bruises on a Sunday morning, he knew it had been a good Saturday night.    If SL bodies bruised, there would be as grid-wide shortage of witch hazel today.

We celebrated last night with The Dubliners, and boy did we have a ball.  It is not over yet, as today is St. Patrick's day itself and Substation at 12pm SL and then Worlds End on the Beach from 2pm SL will continue the celebrations!

Happy Saint Patrick's Day everyone.. pass the aspirin.

The Old Bull and Bush

The wartime pub in London City.

The pub has its own voice parcel, 24 hour 1940's radio stream, board games, drinks and leader board competitions.

Today we added a game of draughts (checkers) which uses proper rules, where you can take a whole series of your opponents pieces if you line them up correctly.

So keep an eye on the pub, its a bit of leisurely fun and its all come together quite nicely.

You can visit the Bull and Bush here:  http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/48/184/24

Irish Festival Continues

Last night, it was your chance to swoon to the wonderful tone of Ireland's finest, Mr Joe Dolan.

Today in London City, Substation is open from 12pm SL (yes the American clocks changed overnight) and then Katty on the Beach with Substation from 2pm SL time.

Friday, March 08, 2019

Joe Dolan on Saturday

Continuing the Irish Festival for St Patrick's, top entertainer Joe Dolan in Concert on Saturday.

Joe Dolan was an Irish entertainer and recording artist.

He is known mainly for his flamboyant shows which include many well know standards and for his high pitched singing voice, without using falsetto, which is reminiscent of Greek singer Demis Roussos.

Whilst Joe never achieved notable chart success in America, he regularly toured the States and played a residency in Vegas.  In Ireland he is the only Irish singer to have charted in the top ten in each decade from the 1960s onwards.

Joe Dolan died in 2007, but his talents live on and whilst you may not be familiar with the singer you will certainly know the songs and enjoy Joe's rendition.

On Saturday we invite you to enjoy this remarkable entertainer at Party in The Park.

Party starts at 1pm SL (8pm  UK) and the show is an hour later at 2pm SL.

Kenny Rogers on Saturday

Kenny Rogers, born 1938, after appearing in many bands, launched his solo career in 1976.

He first became famous in 1977 with the single Lucille and on the strength of that, his first album imaginatively entitled Kenny Rogers became a number 1 selling album in the States.

More hits soon followed with, Ruby, Coward of The County, Lady, The Gambler and then he hit stratospheric fame with Dolly Parton in 1983 with the platinum selling Islands In The Stream, which was recently voted the most popular country hit single of all time.

In November 2017, Kenny, now suffering from severe mobility issues due to unsuccessful hip replacement surgery which has seen him largely confined to a wheelchair in recent years, decided to hang up his hat and retire from Showbiz.

We invite you to enjoy an evening with Kenny Rogers as he plays London City on Saturday.
The party starts at 12pm SL time (8pm UK), with the Concert an hour later at 1pm SL time.

London City - Official Community Gateway

London City Gateway is being revamped and getting a make-over.

This is a brief potted history..

Over three years ago, London City became the first of the next generation Official Community Gateways to come on-line.

Since then over 600,000 new residents have begun their journey in Second Life, via the portal operated by London City.

The gateway has the emphasis on quick-starting a resident by showing them the basics of walking, running, camera controls and jumping.  These are the bare bone essentials needed to begin their adventure, and if they decide for a more in-depth tutorial, they can take a tour of the full region and follow the examples - or - they can choose to jump right into the community region London City and meet other residents.

From there, our Support team will show them how to customize their avatar, dance, shop, create landmarks and search for places and events of interest.

This video shows the kind of group events enjoyed by residents being born into London City Official Community Gateway.

Everly Brothers on Saturday

Appearing  this Saturday: The Everly Brothers.

Don and Phil Everly first became famous back in 1957 with Bye Bye Love and quickly established themselves as Rock n Rollers for the rest of that decade. Wake Up Little Susie, Cathy's Clown and Walk Right Back followed successively before they moved into the rock-a-ballad style they later became synonymous with.

In the mid 1960's they chart topped with, Crying In The Rain, Devoted To You, All I Have To Do Is Dream, Love Is Strange, Ebony Eyes, When Will I Be Loved and other softer rock songs.

By the start of the 1970's both brothers had become addicted to amphetamines which lead to a nervous breakdown for Don and the duo stopped recording. By the time both were recovered, disagreements had turned into a feud and the brothers did not perform, nor communicate with each other for a decade and pursued fruitless solo careers.

Thirteen years after the split, they performed some tense reunion concerts together beginning in the UK in 1983 where they had agreed that they would only talk to each other whilst on stage, but only if it was necessary.  Encouraged by the media hype of the reunion, in 1984 they recorded, On The Wings Of A Nightingale which was to be their final song to enter the charts.

By the 1990's the brothers had made peace with each other, but their stop-start careers had eroded their following and they continued to perform one-off reunion concerts every few years until their last appearance in 2004 as featured artists for the Simon & Garfunkel tour Old Friends, Live On Stage.

Phil Everly died in 2014, but the Everly Brothers legacy will live on.
We invite you to experience their heyday and bask in the incredible love songs penned by these talented and troubled souls.

Party in the Park is at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the stage show an hour later.

Wrap up Warm

It must be spring, it's snowing!

They say this every year, but maybe this time they are right.   The UK is bracing for what promises to be the most snowfall seen in the country in over ten years.

Just about everywhere is going to receive a good 4 to 8 inches of snow over the next 24 hours, and 8 inches is indeed something to crow about!

There will never be a better excuse to get snowed-in and play Second Life until at least the middle of next week, so keep a beady eye on the forecasts, and make sure you have plenty of Armageddon-proof food in your cupboards.

So wrap up warm, get the kettle on and login to London City, where a cup of hot Bovril awaits you.

The Money Tree

Although having money in Second Life is not essential as there are many freebies out there, it can seriously hamper your game, especially when there are so many "almost free" accessories now available, where you need from 1 to 5 Lindens to purchase them.

We are always going to recommend users to upgrade their accounts to premium and take advantage of weekly stipend payments, live chat support, a free home and 512 parcel), but it is also important to recognize that for a lot of folk, they want to be able to play 'the game' without any financial outlay.

The Money Tree in London City can help newer users to accumulate some linden dollars to pay for these "almost free" items, and playing is simple.  Just click the notes when they fall from the tree, before they disappear and you will instantly receive a linden dollar for each note you click!

Enjoy the London City Money Tree.
