Substation and Worlds End today

We're back to normal, as the UK rolled its clocks forward  one hour and caught up with the rest of you.   So Substation today is back at its regular SL time of 11am SL (7pm UK) and World's End on the road is at 1pm SL (9pm UK).

Clocks go forward

If your are in Britain or elsewhere in Europe, don't forget to put your clocks forward by one hour on Saturday, before you go to bed.  We'll lose an hour's sleep, but just think of all that extra sunshine we will enjoy from tomorrow evening!

Covenant Update

The London City Covenant has been updated. The full covenant is displayed here .

For those already familiar with the covenant, the only change in this revision is the following information has been added since its last amendment in October 2019:

We are living in unsettled times, where the virtual community, more than ever, has come together for companionship during forced isolation from the real world.

We very much hope that you will find London City a great place to come and chat, chill-out and enjoy some pleasant company and conversations.

We do not wish to curtail anyone's enjoyment and we fully realise that there is a certain kind of 'gallows humour' that some people will adopt by way of a coping strategy.

However, we expect our patrons to act responsibly and thoughtfully as each one of us will inevitably need to adapt to a changing world and circumstances.

Whilst Coronavirus is in no way a taboo subject, we have decided that we will not host deliberately offensive residents or potentially distressing COVID-19 based avatars, or those wearing attachments that make people cough and claim to have infected them. We view this as "broadly offensive content or conduct" and will issue one warning only to remove the attachment. Those failing to comply will have their access to the estate revoked.

Let's keep London City in Second Life fun for everyone, at this time when we all need to use its resources, and look to each other to lift our spirits.

Substation and Worlds End today

We hope you enjoyed the sensational Joe Dolan in Concert last night.
Today from 12pm SL (7pm UK) join us at Substation with Bailey and Coffee, and then Worlds End on the road with Katty at 2pm SL (9pm UK).

This picture from last night could not have been timed better.   Just as Joe Dolan was doing his final encore, this avatar appeared from nowhere behind him, and oh how it cracked us up!

Keeping Spirits High

A message to the Community from the London City Team:

We are seeing a lot of new users and returning users to London City, and we want to assure you that we have contingency plans to keep our events and services running smoothly throughout this crisis.

First and foremost, London City is a Community, and we hope that all our regular visitors will be sympathetic to those new and returning users who are feeling isolated and just want some company.

To this end, we ask that everyone remains mindful that some people will be feeling distressed and finding their opportunities to express themselves quite limited outside of Second Life, but that they are seeking comfort.

Our team and staff, remains committed to providing as much support as possible during these times.

As a community, we hope your involvement with London City will help bolster everyone's spirits and make our joint isolation a chance to better get to know and understand one another.

A Message From Lab CEO

Ebbe Altberg, CEO of Linden Lab writes today:

As concerns about the current coronavirus outbreak continue, we want to assure the community that  we have taken steps to ensure that the Second Life operations stay steady while also helping our employees stay safe through this public health crisis. Our hearts and thoughts go out to those who have been affected by this unprecedented event.

Second Life will continue to be available without interruption as we get through this tough time together. Due to our previous crisis contingency planning and the flexible nature of our distributed workforce, we are not expecting any changes to response times for support inquiries and payment processing.

We know that Second Life serves a great purpose for our community as people seek ways to stay in touch with their friends and co-workers, as they grapple with new social distancing protocols, mandated remote work requirements, and other precautionary measures.

With the closure of many universities and displaced conferences and events, Second Life also continues to be an option for disrupted organizations looking for new remote work, classroom or event solutions. To help, we recently implemented a reduction in pricing to a flat $99/month per region for qualified education and nonprofit organizations.

We are seeing an increase in new registrations and returning residents during this outbreak. Please be kind and welcoming to those who may just need a friendly conversation to escape from this crazy world for a moment or more. If you have a friend or colleague who is looking for a safe place to socialize online during these tough times, we encourage you to help them discover how Second Life can enable them to feel less isolated by connecting them to your favorite communities or experiences.

Like many companies across the globe, we’ve put into action new remote work policies for our employees to ensure that they can take care of themselves and their families while continuing to work from home. Prior to this incident, a large percentage of our company was already working from the “Moonlab” (that’s what we call remote employees’ locations), so we have been able to transition quickly and efficiently to a fully remote setup.

For the past 17 years, Second Life has been a special place that brings people across the world together -- and we appreciate your trust and support as we get through this rough time together.

Happy St. Patrick's Day

A very Happy St. Patrick's day to one and all.

Okay it's a little different this year with the pubs in Ireland now closed on this occasion, but let us all
smile and make it a fun virtual party instead.

From 2pm SL time (9pm UK), we hope you can join us for a special St. Patrick's Day Party, with Irish music and lots of grog, at Madame Lala's.   Dress in Green and let's not let some horrid old bug put a damper on our spirits!

Hows your head?

It was the St. Patrick's Party last night and boy did the booze flow!  Our revellers were truly in high spirits that had nothing to do with the grog, it was the music, provided by the Dubliners. Honest.

Today, join Bailey and Coffee for Substation in the Subway from 12pm SL (7pm UK) and Katty for World's End on the road from 2pm SL (9pm UK).
