Bonfire Night and Passenger Concert, Saturday

Passenger was originally a Brit folk/rock band formed in 2003.

When they split up in 2007, lead singer Mike Rosenberg continued his career as a solo artist under the name of Passenger, busking his way around Europe and appearing at fringe festivals.

Then suddenly this year he exploded onto the scene with three chart topping songs in quick succession,   Let her Go, The Wrong Direction and Holes.

Having written over 200 songs, Passenger is receiving the critical acclaim that eluded the band for so long.

Enjoy his music, this weekend as part of our Season's Change month, where you can win 500L for being the Best in Winter Wear / Guy Fawkes.

Also... Bonfire night in the UK, so join us for some wonderful fireworks as we lag out the region in the name of entertainment!

Penny for the Guido?
And now a potted history of how Guy Fawkes and Bonfire Night might have come into tradition...

Back in 1605 (GMT), Guido Fawkes  wanted to protest on how Catholics were treated.  Too little wine, not enough unleavened bread etc.

Guido later became known as Guy in a brand refresh to help sell more rockets.
Anyway, Fawkes decided that they would blow up the Houses of Parliament, (visit HOP in London here) in particular the House of Lords, by smuggling in hundreds of gunpowder kegs into the cellar and detonating them on 5th November as the King (James I) was opening Parliament.

Unfortunately for Guy, one of his gang ran off at the gums and blabbered about this heinous plot.  Word soon spread and they were caught in the act.

The King was quite annoyed about it all and as a slap on the wrist for doing such a thing, they decided to chop bits of him off and wave them around, hang him for a couple of minutes so not quite dead, disembowel him and do other unmentionable things to embarrass him.

This gruesome method of torture "hanged, drawn and quartered",  was reserved exclusively for traitors. Petty crime (such as stealing some bread), resulted in minor punishment, such as having limbs severed or being boiled in oil.

Here in the UK, on the 5th November (or the closest Saturday to it), we celebrate this bit of horrible history with a firework display (Guy loved to partaay) and huge bonfires burning an effigy of Guy.

If you're stuck for a costume this weekend, grab a Guy Fawkes mask from the Freebie Shops in London City.

Come and warm your chestnuts on the fire!

P!NK in Concert, Saturday

Born Agnes Grimes, but better known as Pink....  (actually she was Alecia Moore), she is an American Singer/Song Writer who really hit it big in 2000 with her song Just Like A Pill.

Winning her first Grammy in 2003 cemented her place in popular music and she soon followed up with other songs, Don't Let Me Get Me, So What, Raise Your Glass, Blow Me and Just Give Me A Reason.

With a net worth of over $70m, this young lady can afford Embassy no.1 but has recently quit smoking to preserve the soft purr of her voice!

Catch her in Concert this Saturday in London City.   Party starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) And the show begins at 1pm SL prompt!

Win 500L prize for "Best in Pink" :)

Weekend in Review - February 17th to 19th

Oooh kiddies, auntie Bailey's feet are throbbing from all that dancing this weekend.

On Friday we ended the week on a high with a Best in Leather/Latex contest at Bar Soho.  Our new Dj, Snakey, took to the decks and provided us with a couple of hours of great music.  We then headed on down the road to Madame Lala's London Revue for an Emmylou Harris tribute concert, which was absolutely fantastic.

It's Emmylou Harris!  Well actually it is an avatar doing a tribute.
On Saturday the concert area Regent's Park was converted to give it a country feel for a special tribute concert featuring none other than Dolly Parton.  Dolly's musical talents overshadow many of her contemporaries and her chest overshadowed the dancers in the park.

The Dolly Parton fan club take to the dance floor...yeehaw!
For entertainment on a Sunday we usually head to Comptons pub, but we had a change and returned to Regent's Park for a Seekers tribute concert to bring our folk fest to an end.  With a Best in Sixties contest, we were not short on colour or (hideous) patterns!

The Seekers on stage in the Park
Immediately after the Seekers, we headed across town to Lezbo for a Wacky Outfit contest.  I don't think I have words to describe dancing horses, cupcakes, turkeys, etc. so I will show you a pic instead!

Erm...the punters in Lezbo
Okay, I am off to soak my feet...have a great week and don't forget to visit London City frequently for all your shopping and partying needs!

Neil set to rock Regent's Park

Hurrah it is the weekend and all the clubs will be open this evening, so be sure to have a visit of the venues and take part in some great contests with genuine Cash prizes.  Best nip to the supermarket for a bottle of red whilst you're at it.  It's going to be a long night!

On Saturday our main event at Party In The Park will be the legendary Neil Diamond in Concert.  Neil will be singing all of the famous songs from over the years and this is a concert not to be missed.

The party starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) and Neil Diamond and his band takes to the stage at 1pm SL (9pm UK).  The competition this week is "Best In Sideburns", so you'll need to get thinking.   We'd love to see some home made ones.  Perhaps visit the Houses Of Parliament Sandbox to create them?
