Moon Landing Anniversary

Back in 2016, we ran a poll, just for fun, asking visitors, "Has man really been to the moon?"

Back then, 71% of those polled believed it to be true, while 21% believed it to be false.

With the anniversary of the first moon landing today, we thought it might be interesting to run this same poll again and see if public opinion has changed at all.

Like last time, we ask you to consider a couple of points before you vote..

It was at the height of the cold war and the Russians were making all of the significant steps in space, leaving the rest of the world behind.    The Soviet Union had launched the first orbiting satellite, the first animal, and first man into space. They had logged five times the amount of hours in space than anyone else.

The launch of Sputnik 1 in 1957, and the potential of Soviet weapons in space, lead President Kennedy, in 1961, to declare that America would land a man on the moon. In 1962, piloted by John Glenn, Friendship 7 completed an earth orbit just 120 miles above the planet.

High above the earth at 1,000 miles and extending to 25,000 miles lay lethal bands of radiation called the Van Allen radiation belt.  Every manned mission in history since the first in 1961 to the present has been well below this radiation field, except Apollo.  In order to survive the hour and half journey through this radiation field, solid lead shielding would be required. Instead a thin sheet of foil was used as the only protection.

The furthest man had ever been in space was 250 miles in low earth orbit and the moon is 235,000 miles away.  The international space station orbits the earth at 245 miles.

A pocket calculator has more computing power than computers in the 1960s

In modern times, we have never returned to the moon.

So... "If you believe they put a man on the moon"..  Please vote yes!

And finally, here is video of me on that time I went into space..

World peace or take the money?

Here is your theoretical chance to save the world from itself.  If you had the power, would you give peace to the world, or have 1 million dollars deposited in your bank account instead?

This poll is just for fun, but at this peace and goodwill time of year, we thought it would be fun to ask!

Kneeling for the Anthem is OK

In a strange poll that got a lot of people steamed up on voice, it seems it became more about voting against whatever Donald Trump thought was correct. The majority of you voted that kneeling during the national anthem, when traditionally you stand, was not disrespectful.

29 (45%) of you thought it was disrespectful, 36
(55%) of you thought it was not.

One cannot wonder how the voting would have gone, if Mr Trump thought kneeling was OK.

Thanks for taking part, another poll soon.

Vote: Disrespectful to kneel?

Is there ever a time when the things you believe so strongly in, outweigh national pride, and you should feel able to protest openly, even if it offends your country?

Or is protesting, in this case kneeling during the national anthem unacceptable, no matter what?

The voting booth is back http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/71/228/23

Cast your vote, just for fun, but we love your opinions and its a great talking point for debate.

London City votes for Hard Brexit

Last week the Prime Minister called for an early election in June in attempt to secure a mandate from the people to perform a quick exit from the EU.

We asked you if you preferred to go through the full negotiating period (a soft exit) with certain non-negotiable agreements in place, or you fancied taking your chances with a swift (hard) exit from the UK.

65% voted for a hard Brexit, whilst 17% voted for a soft Brexit and 17% were unsure.

Thanks for taking part.

Soft or Hard Brexit?

Decisions, decisions...

Theresa May has called a General Election in the UK for 8th June.  The third time in three years that the whole country has been to the polls.

It seems likely she will win and increase her majority in the Commons, and this gives her the mandate to push-on with a swift exit from the European Union instead of a long good bye.

The problem is this.  Do we hang around like an old scorned lover, in a broken down relationship trying to get the pots and pans in settlement, or do we just pack our things and sling our hook?

As things stand, a Soft Brexit means we keep paying in to the EU after we leave and continue to permit free movement of people in exchange for access to what used to be "the common market".

Or, do we just leave, stop paying the EU and regain control of our borders?  We would have to strike up our own trade deals and forge new friendships and renew acquaintances with the Commonwealth countries.   USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand (who we are currently prohibited from trading with under EU law) have all indicated that they would like to strike up trade routes with the UK.

As always, this poll is just for fun.. So which option would you choose?
