Leaving the European Union
Today is the day that Britain files Article 50, it's formal notice of intent to withdraw from the European Union. By triggering this Article, Britain agrees to leave the bloc by 29th March 2019.
From then on, treaties that govern membership of the EU will no longer apply to Britain.
The terms of exit will be negotiated between Britain’s 27 counterparts, and each will have a veto over the conditions.
After the Brexit, Britain will be able to self govern again, create its own trade routes, control its borders, and will no longer be required to pay into the EU, which currently costs £50m per day.
Since joining the EU, Britain has been largely prohibited from trading with countries outside of the European Union.
It is hoped that the UK will re-open trade routes with the Commonwealth. The Commonwealth is the remnants of the original British Empire and is a voluntary association made of 52 sovereign states, including Australia, New Zealand, Cyprus, Malta, Canada, Jamaica, Trinidad, India and Pakistan.
You can listen live and debate the exit, in London City today from 12pm UK time (4am SL) and enjoy the street party and VE dances.

Britain's new pound coin
The new UK pound coin comes into circulation today. It was last changed 36 years ago, and it is estimated that of the 155 billion in circulation, £47 million are fake!
It is a nightmare for Tesco, the supermarket giant in the UK who failed to get coin discriminators in trolleys changed in time, forcing them to leave all trolley's unlocked. At £150 per trolley, thats a lot of unprotected rolling stock out there.
The new 12-sided pound coin has a laser etched design where the "£" changes to "1" as you tilt the coin in the light. It is hoped that the new design will eliminate forgeries. Time will tell.
The round pound will cease to be legal tender in 6 months, so start splurging your old ones today and do your bit to help spend our way out of austerity!

Ronald Reagan on Mount Rushmore
During the last election in the USA, Ronald Reagan, once a Democrat who defected to the Republicans, was used by both sides of a shining example of what a President should be.
It was common throughout the campaign for both sides to quote him, posthumously second guessing his thoughts on their tactics, and hail him as the best ever modern leader of the free world.
With that in mind, at the weekend we ran a poll. Would you like to add Ronald Reagan to Mount Rushmore?
36% said Yes, 60% said No and 4% were undecided.
It is worth noting that during discussions, some who voted no, said that they had done so as they believe the monument should remain unaltered. Others said in 200 years, whilst Washington and Lincoln would still be relevant, Reagan might be forgotten... and others just plain didn't like the idea.
Thanks for taking part.

Johnny Cash on Saturday
There are few recording artists who are considered an example of 'cool' throughout their careers and remain there long after their death, but Johnny Cash is one such person.
The American singer-songwriter was one of the top selling music artists of all time, selling more than 90 million records worldwide.
Drug and alcohol abuse featured prominently in his early career until he met and fell in love with June Carter, who was independently famous as part of the bible singing Carter Family. Cash said he had an epiphany when meeting Carter and his devotion for her made him clean up his habits and embrace the teachings of the Lord. (Everyone say Hallelujah!)
Johnny Cash is best know for songs, Hurt, A Boy Named Sue, Ghost-riders, Folsom Prison Blues, Ring of Fire, When The Man Comes Around, Jackson and Walk The Line.
He is appearing as a solo act for the first time ever in London City with a brand new show on Saturday and you are invited to spend some time with this great icon.
The party starts at 12pm SLT (8pm UK), with the concert an hour later at 1pm SLT.
