Hazel O'Connor on Saturday

Enjoy a sensational night of New Wave!

London City's tribute to Breaking Glass, with Hazel O'Connor, from the 1980's Punk/New Wave scene.

The hit film starring Hazel O'Connor and Phil Daniels, and broke the UK box office in 1981.

The film was called Breaking Glass and charted the success of a post-Punk/New Wave singer 'Kate' from humble beginnings, singing in rowdy back street bars, to sudden super stardom and her eventual meltdown.

Hazel O'Connor wrote and performed all of songs from the movie and just like her character in the film, experienced a brief superstardom in the early 80s with songs, Black Man, Eighth Day, If Only, Writing on the Wall, D-Days, Who Needs It and her most famous of all, Will You, which remained in the charts for 14 weeks.

In January 2022, Hazel suffered a life changing brain haemorrhage and remains on a very long and challenging road to recovery.

Come and enjoy the show on Saturday http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/128/113/23

The Party starts at 12pm SLT (8pm UK), with the concert at 1pm SLT

War Of The Worlds - A date for your diary!

On Saturday 26th October, London City invites you to take part in War Of The Worlds.

Be a member of the cast in this interactive stage show!

As part of the Halloween celebrations, we hope you will join us for some Sci-Fi Horror as we enjoy an interactive interpretation of H.G. Wells' famous classic, The War Of The Worlds.

The story so far...

A huge mass of luminous gas has erupted on Mars and sped towards earth.

Across two-hundred-million miles of void, invisibly hurtling towards us,  comes the first of the missiles that is to bring so much calamity to earth.

As we watched, there was another jet of gas, another missile, starting on its way.

The invasion has begun!

Come to the party dressed however you like, but to be part of the Cast (and dance on stage) in this Interactive Show, please dress in turn of the century clothing.  Men in cloth caps and working clothes, ladies in bustles and bonnets or dressed as maids - circa anytime from 1880 to 1940.

We do hope you will join us for this production of WOTW at London in Second Life.

Party starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the show at 1pm SL time.

The return of the World's Worst Gatcha

Do you remember when SL banned Spinning Wheels throughout the kingdom?

Well the great news is that Gatcha's are now 'legal' again, so long as the content isn't transferable.  There is more to it than that, but essentially that is what it boils down to.  See the Lab's story here

Back when they were outlawed we had to remove the World's Worst Gatcha from London City to comply with new rules, much to the disappointment of many people who enjoyed playing the machine to see what awful accessory it gave you.

We're really pleased to announce that it is back and in the hub and waiting for you to abuse it.

Every prize is a stinker, guaranteed!

Blondie on Saturday

It's the return of the Saturday Concerts, starting this Saturday at 12pm SL time (8pn UK)

Forty years ago (at least), waitress Debbie Harry, who had been performing part-time in a folk band, formed Blondie with her friend Chris Stein.

In 1976 they released their first album Blondie and from then on became a huge success in Australia, England and America.

Although the bulk of their hits were in a relatively short timespan from 1978 to 1981, their most successful release, Maria was not until the band reformed, many years later in 1999.

Now regularly touring again, you can enjoy the hits once more at The Blondie Tribute Concert, this Saturday in London City.  The party begins at  12pm SL (8pm UK) with the show an hour later at 1pm SL.

Hurricane Season UK

Poor Blighty is gripped in a storm front today.

The UK famously does not acknowledge any storm as a hurricane until it has been and gone, but as storms go, this is a big one and will last until Saturday evening.

Fear not, London City in Second Life is still spring like, with only the odd 100mph winds gusting through.

Our team are mostly in their bunkers with tinned spam left over the from pandemic, a torch and a flask of cocoa.

Rougher than Stormy Daniels

We will see you today at 1pm SL, as Madame Bailey, trooper that she is, will appear on stage at Lala's looking like she has been dragged through a hedge backwards.

Voting us underway in the Poll of The Century!

Even though it is just for fun, some people seem to think this voting poll will have a real effect on the outcome of the forthcoming General Election.

Of course we stirred the pot by asking "Which Idiot Next..", it's how we get your attention.

Please come and vote and try not to rig it if at all possible,  the former president will no doubt be monitoring this and logging on his alts anyway.

Be polite if you see any strange orange avatars hanging around the voting area saying it was stolen.   Just smile and politely back away.

The Summer holidays are finally upon us, with real life sun, sea and surf.  This means that the London City Players get to put their feet up while school is out for Summer and that the Saturday concerts will take a break and return in September.

All of London City's regular entertainment venues will continue as normal with their day to day events, competitions, guest DJ's and fabulous cash prizes.  The hub will be full of people flapping their gums and telling everyone about their real life degrees, pilot licences, how they work for the Secret Service in RL, how they are multi-millionaires living in mansions and slumming it on SL and all kinds of hilarious bollocks for you to laugh at and debunk.

Have a happy Summer and don't forget to use factor 50 unless you're staying in your basement for the duration.

Pride: Pracatan on Saturday: "I lub ewe"

Something camp for Pride.

This week it's Margarita Pracatan  a Cuban singer and gangster who found unexpected success in the 1990s.

Her big break came on the Clive James TV show where each week Margarita would play out the show, singing  her own unique rendition of famous songs, but performed on a Casio electronic organ, often with an unusually fast beat, and often playing all the right notes, but not necessarily in the right order.

Now, in London, she  performs a breath taking show with an unusual orchestra provided by a Casio organ.

A show not to be missed!  Trust us!

Party starts 12pm SL (8pm UK) with the concert an hour later at 1pm.

Tina and loving husband Ike Turner had a string of notable hits, River Deep Mountain High, Nutbush City Limits and Proud Mary and enjoyed their success with cigarettes and whisky and wild wild  women.

However, behind the scenes Ike was knocking seven shades out of poor old Tina and they split up in 1976.  Five years later, after getting rid of her junkie husband, Tina hit super-stardom with Let's Stay Together, Private Dancer and What's Love Got To Do With It.  A legend came into being.

Seekers on Saturday

We're having a sing-a-long party with Mavis Cock (who later became Judith Durham).

The Seekers were an Australian up-tempo folk/pop quartet, formed in 1962.

They were the first Australian pop group to achieve major chart and sales success in the United Kingdom and the United States.

The group had Top 10 hits in the 1960s with I'll Never Find Another You, A World of Our Own, Morningtown Ride and Georgy Girl.   The Carnival Is Over is still one of the top 50 best-selling singles of all time in the UK.

Reformed in the late 1990's, The Seekers were still regularly performing until 2015.  However due to the ill health of lead singer Judith Durham, the band had to end their farewell tours after the show at the Royal Albert Hall in London, when Judith's declining health had become obvious.

Last year a new show on Broadway called Georgy Girl, telling the musical story of the band reignited interest in the group.   Judith Durham lived to see the incredible resurgence of interest in talent. She died on 5th August 2022 and the world lost one of the most amazing voices ever, but her legacy continues.

Enjoy The Seekers in London City on Saturday.   Party starts at 12pm SL time (8pm UK) with the show an hour later.

 TP: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/100/100/23

Shortly before her death, Judith Durham released Acapella album demonstrating that she had retained nearly all of her beautiful voice, despite suffering a brain bleed earlier the same year, but the concert in London City features Judith at her absolute best.
