The Bank Holiday is here!

Well here we are again, with another long Bank Holiday Weekend.   Just like real life, its going to be a scorcher in Second Life too.

The Olympic sized paddling pool will be back for you to strut your stuff in your new (and hopefully not recycled) bathing costumes.  The on-site bar serving cold pies and warm beer is available for your convenience and there are special events throughout the long weekend and of course the Saturday night concert!

To enjoy this virtual extravaganza you will need copious amounts of alcohol, and as ever, we've researched the best beer deals nationwide as a part of our public information service.

Deals this weekend include Carling at Asda, 36 cans for £21, Kronenbourg at Sainsbury's, 18 cans for £14, and at Tesco, an offer of Desperados Tequila Beer, just £20 for 24 bottles!

Of course if you're on a budget and enjoy giving your bladder a thorough workout on your way to inebriation, check out the bargain bucket grog available in the cheap-seat isles of most supermarkets.

We hope to see you, in whatever state you arrive, for the Bank Holiday Parties, here in the City.

Jesus is coming, this weekend!

Tammy Faye Bakker is here to save your soul, but only if the Price is Right!

The Bank Holiday is nearly upon us.

Be sure to check the blog later in the week for news of the best booze deals available for the upcoming holiday, so that we can all be totally off our tits for Easter, as the good Lord intended!

You may also want to do a bit of extra sinning this week too, so you can take absolutely no responsibility for any of your actions, just like a real Christian,  and blame it all on the Devil, whilst getting your soul redeemed at Saturday's Show!

It's the Weekend!

At last, it is the weekend before Easter, so time for us all to get into the Party mood!

Here is a flavour of what we have for you to look forward to this Weekend and beyond...

Disconnects

A few hours ago, Linden Lab blogged about the 'disconnects on teleport' problem affecting residents.

It appears that at this time, they are still unsure as to how to fix the problem, but have a large team of their best people working on it.

In their own words...

Many Residents have noted that in the last few weeks we have had an increase in disconnects during a teleport. These occur when an avatar attempts to teleport to a new Region (or cross a Region boundary, which is handled similarly internally) and the teleport or Region crossing takes longer than usual.  Instead of arriving at the expected destination, the viewer disconnects with a message like:

Darn. You have been logged out of Second Life.
You have been disconnected from the region you were in.

We do not currently believe that this is specific to any viewer, and it can affect any pair of Regions (it seems to be a timing-sensitive failure in the hand-off between one simulator and the next).  There is no known workaround - please continue logging back in to get where you were going in the meantime.

We are very much aware of the problem, and have a crack team trying to track it down and correct it. They’re putting in long hours and exploring all the possibilities. Quite unfortunately, this problem dodged our usual monitors of the behavior of simulators in the Release Channels, and as a result we're also enhancing those monitors to prevent similar problems getting past us in the future.

We're sorry about this - we empathize with how disruptive it has been.

Uploading sounds longer than 10 Seconds

For those of you who enjoy a bit of a challenge, here's a neat trick to upload sounds longer than 10 seconds and up to 57 seconds.

First pull up your Audacity software and load the clip you want to work with.

In the bottom left hand corner, change the Project rate to 176400 Hz

Now use the pull down menu next to your sound file and change that to 352800 (Fig.1) and you will notice the sound compresses.

Next go to Analyze, then choose "Regular Interval Labels"

Then set Label Interval Seconds to 10, and Number of Labels to 2 for 20 seconds, 3 for 30 seconds and so on. (Fig.3)  If you have problems at this stage, change the Label Placement Method to "Number of Labels" and try again.

Now go to File, "Export Multiple" and choose the export type as Ogg Vorbis File.

This will create several files named 01Label, 02Label and so on.

All you need to do now is a Bulk upload in Second Life and upload 01Label and you will have imported a wav file longer than 10 seconds.

Spring and Easter!

Spring has arrived and Easter is just around the corner.

London City will be hosting our famous Egg and Spoon Races, The Easter Egg Cash Hunt and the dubious race without a name, through April.

Also for Easter itself, we have the Televangelist Revival show, with all the top stars of the church just begging for your money whilst singing songs about suffering.

We've also got special shows for the holidays, so be sure to keep in touch with this blog!
