Weekend Review 25th - 27th May 2012

What a busy packed weekend ... firstly on Friday madame Lala sprang into action like a Thompson's Gazelle ...well, more like an old trout thirsty for gin ... Never the less she made an appearance in her club ...MADAME LALA'S REVUE. There was a tribute to Robin Gibb of the Bee Gee's, who unfortunately passed away last week. Madame Lala played an evening of his music on her gramophone for all to enjoy … There was also a BEST IN YELLOW event , people eagerly turned up in their best yellow outfit hoping to win some Lindens ... As you see Lala turned up in red....I say no more !

On Saturday, Regents park was transformed into another open air concert for all to enjoy... It was Eurovision, and technology being a wonderful thing, there was a simulcast straight into the park on a huge screen, so we could watch the whole event LIVE. It was nail biting to say the least, and our own Engleburt Humperdink was up first to sing and the London city crowd roared for him as well as wearing red, white and blue to show support :) . Later in the intermission, Brotherhood of Man entertained the crowds with a few of their songs we know and love, followed by the voting, where unfortunately the rest of the world were not quite so keen on our englebert ...

Then it was time to hot-foot it over to Lezbo, Lezbo is one of the newest clubs in Victoria London City, it is open to everyone who wants to dance and have fun :). Each night Lezbo club is transformed into a different theme. This week we saw the likes of a Vampire night, the club was transformed into a dark Gothic castle and the dance floor was a river of blood...nice ! lol..Then we were whisked away to the Serengeti plains as we went on safari, the next night we saw Burlesque, the crowds turned out in their feathers glitter and lurex...and that was just the guys :P, We were then transformed into the Mafia, and the club took on a dark grungy warehouse theme, then the week was finished off with a trip into nursery rhymes... Which looked a bit like tellytubbies on acid, and "Egg-leburt Humpty-dink" even showed his face .

see you next time, after another fantastic week in London City .

Robbed at the Eurovision

It was an oh so familiar ending to the Eurovision last night, as Britain again won the coveted title of  most loathed country in Europe and came second from last in the contest.

He was never my cup of tea and I must admit to seeing him as a bit of a poor mans Tom Jones, but there is no denying that Engelbert Humpadink has enjoyed huge fame and fortune in his lifetime.

Brotherhood of Man perform at Eurovision Night
Once an enormously popular singer in the UK, he is one of the few artists to have made the transatlantic leap of faith and enjoyed extreme success in the USA and other European countries, who saw his large orange face as sex on legs.

So was it bad advice, desperation for another shot at fame, conceit or just a terribly misjudged self confidence and feeling of patriotism that made the once international heart throb, Engelbert, set himself up for this tragic fall?

Will people see beyond this and realise that even if the 76 year old old chap had come on with a diamond encrusted zimmer frame and sung like Johnny Mathis and moved like Sammy Davis, that nothing could save him?  He was hobbled before he began, because of the country he represented.

Eurovision Party at London City
If any good can come out of this, hopefully it should prevent us from parading our old prunes again (coughs: Cliff).

London City was full to capacity last night as we danced, listened to the entries and had a great intermission with a performance by Brotherhood of Man.  Everyone was laughing and joking as the results poured in.

Such high spirits despite such a defeat?  We have good reason to smile.  We still have our Sterling.

Robin Gibb - A Lifetime of Music

"I sometimes wonder if the tragedies my family has suffered are a
karmic price for all the fame and fortune the Bee Gees have had"
Here at London City we are big fans of the Bee Gees and it is with sadness that we note the news of Robin Gibb's passing.  He was an extraordinary talent and it is a huge loss.  One can only imagine what else there was to come.

Apart from the Bee Gee's music, there are so many other songs written for other artists including Barbra  Streisand, Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, and the musical scores for films, Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Titanic.

Selling more than 220 million records, it is estimated that with his brothers, Robin wrote 969 songs, averaging one a fortnight for the past 40 years.

This Friday from 2pm SL (10pm UK) at Madame Lala's, please come and enjoy an evening of Robin Gibb - A Lifetime of Music", with solo tracks and some of the lesser known Bee Gee's songs.

If you would like to leave a message of condolence, please visit the official web page http://www.robingibb.com

Holiday Weekend in Review - 11th to 13th May

Well another weekend has ended and a new week has begun.  We had the usual shenanigans in London City with all the venues going full out to keep everyone entertained.  Bar Soho, Madame Lala's London Revue, Lezbo, World's End and Substation all had events with diverse themes - but one theme did re-occur across Sunday and that was Best in Swimwear.  Obviously everyone was wishing for summer and we even had an impromptu beach party in Regent's Park on Sunday!

The big event of the weekend was the Saturday concert in Regent's Park.  For the first time on the main stage we had the amazing live singer Adevina Citron.  An hour of songs and humorous chat kept the crowd entertained.

And that's me signing off for another week - be good!

Adevina Citron singing LIVE on Saturday

We have a wonderfully talented Live singer for Party in The Park this coming Saturday from 12pm SL (8pm UK).

From the bottom of her her soul, Adevina seeks to share her heart through music and song.
An experienced performer, she has come into her own as a top notch entertainer on SL.  An eclectic song list allows each concert to be tailored to the mood of the moment.

Adevina is now entering her second year of singing on SL and is perfecting the art of weaving her music and personality into a tapestry that makes for a great show.  Residents all across the SL grid are discovering and enjoying her light-hearted, fun, and responsive interaction with them.  You never know what you will hear when you show up at her concert, but you will love it.

Adevina is on stage at 1pm SL (9pm UK) here, in Regent's Park

Bank Holiday Weekend in Review - 4th to 7th May

So here we are again, except my blogging of the exploits in London City are slightly later than usual as it was a Bank Holiday weekend here so we continued partying through Monday.  I am so exhausted that I am ready to get back to work for a rest.

Three parties seems to be the way of life on a Friday now with Substation hosting Best in 50's Fashion, Bar Soho having Best in Sci Fi (for May the Fourth) and Madame Lala's rounding the evening off with a Best With Own Teeth contest.  I am not sure who actually checked the teeth, but thankfully it wasn't me.

Continuing on where we left off on Friday we had another three events on Saturday.  The evening started at World's End with a Best in Angels and Demons themed event.  Following on from that we headed on over to Regent's Park for a Best in Underwear contest with Tom Jones tribute taking to the main stage.

The night ended at Lezbo with an Under The Sea event and another of Ruby's amazing themed sets.

On Sunday we began to wind down from the constant partying as Substation ran a Best in Beatles Era contest.  Plenty of Beatles' hits and a pleasant atmosphere in the 60s themed underground club.  Sunday then finished at Lezbo with a Best in Spanish Outfit contest that saw some spectacular dancing with fans and castanets.

As Monday was a Bank Holiday and we managed to escape from real life and work, there was a traditional street party, which also played host to Adele and Best in Come As You Are.  The event saw the square outside Bar Soho transformed to a makeshift venue with catering facilities to suit all tastes (especially the beer tent).

The long weekend then ended at Bar Soho with a Worst Dressed contest.  As that has just finished as I am writing this, the outfits are still burning my eyes so you shall have to excuse we while I go and blot them out with several pills.

Hope you all have a great week.  Keep an eye on the blog for announcement of developments in London City this week and as always, thank you for your continued support.

London City Elects Boris

Later today we will find out the real results for Mayor of London, but here in-world, the players have elected Boris to return as Mayor for London City.

It will be interesting to see if our poll comes anywhere close to the real life results, and if they do, poor Ken is going to have a hard time keeping his political career going.

Boris wins with 43.4% of all votes.  Ken comes last with only 11.5%

Thank you for taking part in the first election in London City.  Just for fun, but we hope you enjoyed it.
