Weekend in Review - January 27th to 29th

So here we are - the final weekend review of January 2012.  This month has gone by so quickly, but as the saying goes 'time flies when you are having fun'.  Of course they also say that 'time flies like an arrow, but fruit flies like a banana', but we shall pass over that one as the talk of bananas makes me giddy.

Friday started off for us as it usually does with a visit to Bar Soho where we had a Best in Wild West theme with DJ Billy 'The Kid' Arentire and hostess Lisa.  This helped everyone unwind before we all turned in to tie dye clad hippies for Madame Lala's London Revue.  Special guests were a tribute to Peter, Paul and Mary and the contest was somewhere between a peace protest and a love in.  Although if I am really honest, from the state of how some people were dressed it was more like a protest against good taste...

Peter, Paul and Mary (as opposed to Mary, Mungo and Midge)
The peace protest
On Saturday we had a real treat as one of London City's favourite SLebrities took to the main stage in Regent's Park.  Yes, we had the return of Mapoo Little and her extraordinary voice.  She wowed the crowd with a selection from her repertoire taken from Amy Winehouse and Adele.  A stunning concert as always.

Mapoo lets rip
The crowd shake their pixels for Ms Little
There were, of course, the usual events across other London City venues - Comptons on Sunday and Lezbo on Saturday and Sunday...how do we fit so much in to one weekend?!

And that is it from auntie Bailey for this week.  All that remains for me to say, in the spirit of Friday's event at Madame Lala's establishment, is "May peace shower down on you".

Peter, Paul and Mary in Revue - Friday

For fifty years, Peter Yarrow, Paul Stookey and Mary Travers entertained audiences under the name of Peter, Paul and Mary.

Best remembered for Leaving on a Jet Plane, If I Had A Hammer and Puff The Magic Dragon, the trio also recorded many more popular folk songs of the time.

Take a trip down memory lane this Friday evening at Madame Lala's London Revue.
Doors open at 2pm SL (10pm UK) with Peter, Paul and Mary in Concert at 3pm SL (11pm UK).

Weekend in Review - January 20th to 22nd

Hello kiddies!  It is I, auntie Bailey here once again with a review of the weekend in London City.  Don't they go by so quickly?  I suppose time flies when you are having fun and London City was full to the gunnels (or gunwales if you want to be absolutely correct) with entertainment.

The weekend started even earlier than usual for us as there was the relaunch of World's End pub - with dancing, music, darts and hot tub action with new landladies, Coffee and Heather.

World's End relaunch party
This was followed by the usual riotous activity at Bar Soho and Madame Lala's London Revue.  Three events in three establishments in one night...sometimes we really spoil you!

On Saturday we had the welcome return of Helvis Xue to Regent's Park.  Seems appropriate having the King in Regent's Park!

Party people having their socks rocked off!
Helvis - the King (of hotness)
Following on from Helvis in the park, we headed off to Lezbo for a "shiny and shades" contest.

The Lezbo crowd show us their shiny bits...
Sunday is our weekend wind down but that didn't mean there was any let up on the entertainment front.  We gathered at Comptons pub for a Best in Casual contest.

And after Comptons it was back off to Lezbo for Best in Formal - with enough big frocks to lag a sim packed in to one venure!

The brand new Lyon's Tea House and Cake Shop opens today in London City.

LordOfTheTeapot, a colourful character seen around London City is, as his name suggests, a fan and somewhat an expert of Tea, both in RL and SL.

Join LordOfTheTeapot, throughout the day here in London City and have your fortune told, absolutely free.  You can also help yourselves to lashings of tea and tasty cakes.

The Lyon's Tea Shop is our tribute to the art deco Corner Houses which appeared in London from 1909 until 1977.

Weekend in Review - January 13th to 15th

The London City weekend kicked off with the usual Bar Soho and Madame Lala's London Revue double whammy.  A special tribute concert at Madame Lala's lovely establishment featured Roy Orbison and we were even graced with the presence of Lala herself.

The event in Regent's Park on Saturday was the ever popular sim packer, Amy MacDonald.  With the sim maxed out, it was dancing room only and we were practically nose to nipple on the dancefloor...not that there were any complaints about that!

Dancing the night away in Regent's Park
Comptons pub on Sunday provided us with the perfect end to the weekend as London City favourite Adevina Citron took to the stage.  The crowd-pleasing chanteuse treated us to an hour of songs that put the feel good factor in to our Sunday.

Weekend in Review - January 6th to 8th

Yes, it's me again, auntie Bailey the crazy spinster of London City with the weekend review so hang on to your hairnets and let's do this.

Our weekend kicked off in London City as they always do with a Best In contest at Bar Soho.  Friday's contest was Best in Slogan T-Shirt so no photos have survived the censor's knife as everyone always wears things with rude slogans.  Even a shy, retiring maiden aunt like me is force in to something provocative.

After our stint at Bar Soho ended, we trudged off down the street like some bizarre protest march to Madame Lala's London Revue, where we were treated to the musical stylings of Judith Durham and The Seekers.  I am sure I was not the only one who regarded this with more than a little trepidation but it turned out to be a fantastic musical tour through some classic songs that had the patrons dancing in the aisles...or maybe that was the alcohol.

Judith Durham and the (not very) New Seekers on stage at Madame Lala's
On Saturday we had our big event in Regent's Park with a new addition to the list of tribute concerts.  London City favourite Britt McMahon brought us Blondie - ably assisted by some of the lovely ladies of the London City staff (who were all transformed in to men to be Debbie Harry's band).  Despite many complaints (from the staff who were forced to wear sensible, i.e. ugly, male shoes), the concert was a huge hit with numbers on the sim peaking at 102.

Obligatory crowd shot

You may have guessed the contest theme was Best in White
Sunday brought us a sense of deja vu as Judith and The Seekers did an encore performance at Comptons.

Happy New Year!

Everywhere we look, everyone is sending blogs about what they hope to do in the New Year, so we thought to do the opposite.

We hope all the new things coming up this year will be a pleasant surprise. Beyond that, we will announce designs and projects as they happen.

In truth, it's not that Billy and I don't want to show our hand, although admittedly there is always that.. but because London City has grown in every which way we look and continues to do so at a phenomenal rate and we work on the solutions you need today.

We are consumer led, so we continue to look at ways to resolve and enhance the requirements of this ever expanding community.   We put things in that you request and we test them and we take them out if they don't perform well.  We like to experiment... it keeps you on your toes lol.

So rather than list all the things we hope to do over the next year, let us deal with the wants and needs of right now and the projects we have completed today after our first full day back on Second Life since the holidays.

The Job Centre

London City already offers many ways for people to earn money and find work, but as in real life, there are far more people looking for work, than jobs being offered.

To help residents into gainful employment, we are proud to announce the opening of the Job Centre in Whitehall, (Victoria) London City3.

The Job Centre  has a number of help cards available for those seeking work for the first time, offering practical advice and help.

Once inside, you will see adboards from employers with target specific advertisements seeking that extra special employee.   Residents are also invited to Job Club, a group that will offer leads on which places are currently hiring and also receive notices from potential employers.

The Job Centre in London City3 will become the key destination that London City uses for advertising job opportunities within our estate (in and out of world) and we hope that it will also be of tremendous use to other businesses in Second Life looking to recruit employees who have grown up here in London City, been through our advanced induction programme and are now seeking honest, genuine and fair employment in this big wide second world.

Free London Homes

We now offer free accomodation to all residents at Free London Homes, The Plaza Hotel, (West End) London City2.

A resident can Set Home in the hotel foyer, chill-out in the reception with other new residents and even catch the odd free linden as rolls across the arrivals desk.

Rooms become available for occupancy ten minutes after a resident "checks-out".  Rental is free, just walk in and touch the door.  Each room is available to the tenant for as long as they wish and is equipped with a bed, chest of drawers, mirror and posing stand.

It is the intention of the hotel to offer a level of privacy for newer residents whilst they design their shape, image and accessories in addition to having a place to call home.

Great Places

We have rolled out Great Places, a product aimed at promoting fantastic, well built regions with great communities.   It is our hope that the residents who enjoy London City, will visit these destinations for an additional layer of enjoyment.

Part of being proud of any business is the belief that your product is strong enough and that your clients will return because you offer something that others do not.  In offering this free service to other communities, we have the trust that the London City community will find this a useful addition to places to visit and not a solution to coming here <lol>.

London City, often copied, never duplicated.

Weekend in Review - 30 December to 1 January

Friday night saw us kick off the weekend with the usual parties at Bar Soho and Madame Lala's London Revue.  These parties saw everyone looking fabulous and glamorous as we went to town on the glitz as we plunged towards the end of the year.

On Saturday we had a mammoth event in Regent's Park that rolled on well in to Sunday.  A pre-show party started us off before our Amy Winehouse tribute took to the stage.  After her amazing show the party continued as we danced our way towards the end of 2011 and in to the start of 2012.  Sparklers fizzed.  Fireworks exploded.  Rave sticks glowed.  Champagne flowed.  Contest and raffle winners were applauded.  All in all it was a spectacular send off to the old year and welcome to the new one.
Amy and the backing boys!
Obligatory crowd shot looking towards the stage.  Check out the champagne on the right of the pic!
Due to dancing we were all too busy to go to Big Ben at Midnight...so Big Ben came to us!
A few of the colourful people at the New Year's Eve party
On Sunday, we did not take to Comptons pub as we usually do.  Instead we went to the beach...in Regent's Park.  And we had a beachwear party...in January.  A beautiful waterfall cascaded down at one end of the dance area and provided us with a small stream in which to cool ourselves down from the heat of London in January.  There were also lots of lovely wish swimming in the water so none of us have hard, dry skin on our feet any more.
We hit the beach...in London...in January!
Advance warning...next weekend is a very special tribute concert featuring Blondie!

Festival: Out With The Old, featured SL Destination

Happy New Year!

Wishing everyone a wonderful New Year and we hope you enjoyed the party and concert last night.

We figure that everyone has had enough of the snow and ice.  It's tradition in London City for spring to get sprung on New Years day.

So brush off the winter chills, take off that Santa beard, grab a brand new Spring outfit from one of the 120 fully stocked stores here in the estate and head over to the park and soak up some sunshine!
