Weekend Review 25th - 27th May 2012

What a busy packed weekend ... firstly on Friday madame Lala sprang into action like a Thompson's Gazelle ...well, more like an old trout thirsty for gin ... Never the less she made an appearance in her club ...MADAME LALA'S REVUE. There was a tribute to Robin Gibb of the Bee Gee's, who unfortunately passed away last week. Madame Lala played an evening of his music on her gramophone for all to enjoy … There was also a BEST IN YELLOW event , people eagerly turned up in their best yellow outfit hoping to win some Lindens ... As you see Lala turned up in red....I say no more !

On Saturday, Regents park was transformed into another open air concert for all to enjoy... It was Eurovision, and technology being a wonderful thing, there was a simulcast straight into the park on a huge screen, so we could watch the whole event LIVE. It was nail biting to say the least, and our own Engleburt Humperdink was up first to sing and the London city crowd roared for him as well as wearing red, white and blue to show support :) . Later in the intermission, Brotherhood of Man entertained the crowds with a few of their songs we know and love, followed by the voting, where unfortunately the rest of the world were not quite so keen on our englebert ...

Then it was time to hot-foot it over to Lezbo, Lezbo is one of the newest clubs in Victoria London City, it is open to everyone who wants to dance and have fun :). Each night Lezbo club is transformed into a different theme. This week we saw the likes of a Vampire night, the club was transformed into a dark Gothic castle and the dance floor was a river of blood...nice ! lol..Then we were whisked away to the Serengeti plains as we went on safari, the next night we saw Burlesque, the crowds turned out in their feathers glitter and lurex...and that was just the guys :P, We were then transformed into the Mafia, and the club took on a dark grungy warehouse theme, then the week was finished off with a trip into nursery rhymes... Which looked a bit like tellytubbies on acid, and "Egg-leburt Humpty-dink" even showed his face .

see you next time, after another fantastic week in London City .

Robin Gibb - A Lifetime of Music

"I sometimes wonder if the tragedies my family has suffered are a
karmic price for all the fame and fortune the Bee Gees have had"
Here at London City we are big fans of the Bee Gees and it is with sadness that we note the news of Robin Gibb's passing.  He was an extraordinary talent and it is a huge loss.  One can only imagine what else there was to come.

Apart from the Bee Gee's music, there are so many other songs written for other artists including Barbra  Streisand, Dolly Parton, Celine Dion, Dionne Warwick, Diana Ross, and the musical scores for films, Saturday Night Fever, Grease and Titanic.

Selling more than 220 million records, it is estimated that with his brothers, Robin wrote 969 songs, averaging one a fortnight for the past 40 years.

This Friday from 2pm SL (10pm UK) at Madame Lala's, please come and enjoy an evening of Robin Gibb - A Lifetime of Music", with solo tracks and some of the lesser known Bee Gee's songs.

If you would like to leave a message of condolence, please visit the official web page

Weekend in Review - 13th to 15th April

Well that's another weekend over with and a new week has been birthed.  On a brighter note, that means we are even closer to the next weekend in London City!

The weekend got underway for us at Bar Soho on Friday with a Best in Sportswear contest.  Hostess Katty stepped in to help out as the regular host was abducted by aliens (or RL, which is much the same experience).  Yours truly stepped in to DJ for the night and I have to confess, I rather enjoyed myself...not sure how much the clientele enjoyed my dance tracks though!

After Bar Soho, we headed down the street as we usually do on a Friday to Madame Lala's London Revue, where there was a special performance by Blondie.

Maybe not Atomic, but definitely traces of radiation...
The party at World's End pub on Saturday was in danger of being raided by the police as the contest was Best in Baddie.  Thankfully the criminal masterminds of London City were able to stay free and made their escape after the event.

For the main event in Regent's Park we saw the ever popular Bee Gees take to the stage.  I do like a nice stage but it usually takes more than that to get my knickers wagging, however, this was something special - a giant disco ball that opened up to reveal the group.

An awesome stage set
The boys on stage
Movers and groovers on the Regent's Park dancefloor
After the concert in Regent's Park, revellers (who were obviously drunk and had impaired judgement) boarded the night bus.  Their destination was a Best in Space event at Lezbo and given the bus drivers in London City, a flight in to space is highly probable.

Starship Lezbo goes in to orbit
On Sunday we had another sixties inspired event at Substation with the contest theme of Mods and Rockers.  There was also a live performance by the ever lovely Adevina Citron - great voice and a great personality too.

A great crowd for Adevina
To round the weekend off, there was a Rocky Horror Picture Show event over at Lezbo.

Defies description...
And that's all from me for another week.  Stay tuned to this channel for more news on London City!

Summer of 73 - The Bee Gee's in Concert

Each weekend throughout April, London City celebrates a year from the 1970's and plays music and concerts from that year.   Last week was 1976 and Boney M thrilled the crowd.

This weekend we move back a few years to 1973.  The pop music charts in the UK at that time included hits by, Slade, Gary Glitter, Wizard and Led Zeppelin to name but a few.

Also, just starting to get noticed on the international stage was a band of brothers who called themselves, The Bee Gee's.

Before being catapulted in super stardom upon the release of Saturday Night Fever in 1977 and securing their place in history with Grease in 1982, the Bee Gee's were becoming very popular in Australia and Japan in the very early 1970's.

We hope you enjoy a bit of nostalgia as we go back in time to the Summer of 1973, playing songs that predate their later hits.

Party in The Park starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) and the concert begins at 1pm SL (9pm UK).

Competition is Best in Flares!

The Weekend Wrap Up

Hundreds of Party goers enjoyed a fabulous weekend of events here in Mainland London.
On Saturday the sims were filled to capacity again for ABBA in their first ever concert here.

Sunday saw the return of the Bee Gees and Cher giving afternoon performances again packing us to the rafters on a Sunday lunch time, then DJ Rolday in Bar Soho.

It's true that we don't offer thousands of lindens every day for people to come here.
We are keen to avoid gimmicks and bribes. We hope our visitors come to Mainland London for the Entertainment value, to enjoy themselves and become part of this expanding community.... and not come for the cash, which they won't get, cos it's not on offer :)

Although the sims are always full, so are the shops.  So next time you have a few minutes to kill having to do fancy manuevers to get in, please visit the buzzing shops in the neighboring Mainland London region.

As stated in the Second Life Destinations, we're making a song and dance of it again this month... Watch the blog tomorrow for the line-up of Events in Mainland London next weekend.

Thank you again everyone for your continued patronage..

Final thought for the weekend....
We do it all over again tomorrow!
