New Region in London City

We are thrilled to announce that our next region, "London City2" has landed at the South end of Soho and Regent's Park.

This latest addition will be a continuation of Soho into the rest of the West End and will feature many more notable sights of the beautiful London City.

The new region will feature an Odeon style cinema, new pub hangout, night club, shopping and a beautiful and picturesque residential district with boating lake around the Southbank.

Visitors will be able to relax by the river, swim, take a boat out, or use one of the new rezzers to cross Tower Bridge.

Building work is already underway and this latest region will open during August.

Sunday at Comptons

Sunday Evening at Comptons Pub, is shaping up to be a really good spontaneous evening of fun in London City.

This Sunday as the sun finally shone and warmed London up a bit,  we nipped down to B&Q and got an awning for the back of the boozer, so the pub regulars could party in the evening air.

The lovely Robyn of RX Designs here in London City, provided a leather basque and a Mad Max outfit as prizes for those who turned up to a Best In Shorts contest.

Our old friend Demis Roussos turned up with his old "Friend the Wind", to provide a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, with the odd tornado or two.

An enjoyable, fun, low maintenance evening.  Just what everyone needed after such an exhausting Friday and Saturday.

Tower Bridge arrives

London City got a new attraction added to its skyline yesterday in the form of Tower Bridge.

Often confused by tourists as London Bridge, Tower Bridge gets its name from being the closest bridge to the Tower Of London and not from its turrets.

Despite what many tourists think, Tower Bridge is not many hundreds of years old, it was actually completed in 1894.  Ours was completed on Friday by master builder, Billy Arentire.

The Weekend in London City

Remembering the extraordinary talents of Amy Winehouse.

A month ago we brainstormed with  Mapoo Little about an idea for an Amy Winehouse concert on Saturday evening.   We thought it would be fun to have Mapoo using her powerful and tuneful voice to sing the songs of Amy and for us to come up with a satirical stage and set reflecting the chaotic lifestyle of this iconic singer.

Given the sad news yesterday of Amy dying in the afternoon, we felt inappropriate to continue with the concert as planned.   Many people were in our collecting IM's urging us to go ahead with the planned schedule, saying it would pay homage, whilst an equal amount advised against it, saying it would distasteful given that the news had just broken.

We decided to disappoint fans, rather than risk offending people and Mapoo put on a truly amazing  concert featuring the songs of Lady Gaga with only about fifteen minutes notice of a change of schedule.  If ever a decision went down to the wire, this was it.  Rightly or wrongly, we decided to reschedule Amy Winehouse for another day once everyone gets a chance to comes to terms with the fact that this immensely talented, yet tragic character is no longer with us.

During the concert, Mapoo paid tribute to Amy and sang two songs as tribute, including "Rehab", which was extremely poignant, if not a little unnerving.

People were saying that if only she hadn't done the drugs, pills and booze, that we would have this talent going on to greater things and producing more soulful songs for us for years to come.  Could this be true, or was the very lifestyle, the chaotic and unhappy existence fuelled by an aggressive relationship and the mood altering substances, that put her mind into the dark and remote recesses from where she could write her musical, bleak poetry?  We shall never know.

We have all seen Amy Winehouse recently, a shadow of her former self and whilst we are shocked at her passing, it was not entirely unexpected.   It is immensely sad that anyone so young should self destruct in such a public manner and that she felt she could only access her creativity by being in a mind-set that untimately lead to her death.  Amy Winehouse, singer, songwriter and talking-point was 27.

QUEEN Plays to Packed House!

Saturday night in Soho, London City saw the arrival of the legendary band QUEEN!

Queen packed the house to bursting. 100 of the sexiest avatars showed up for this SRO (Standing Room Only) show. There were so many people on the dance floor we could hardly see Queen on the  Open Air, Theatre stage, but quick camming skills gave everyone a fantastic view!

Prynce of subVersion in London City provided a free gift for everyone at the concert, a specially made Queen outfit given just for the night! We can't thank Prynce enough for his long standing support of London City and were thrilled at his participation during the nights events! Queen rocked the stage and the sound of hundreds of feet on the dance floor filled the summer air. The roar of the crowd was deafening.

We partied well into the night with our Best in Latex contest. Camp Attack took over the dance floor to a sea of sexy latex clad hotties. Special congratulations goes out to Ed Floresby for winning tonights competition.

It was an amazing night of pure London City entertainment...another in the Summer Pop Series!

Midweek Lala's

When Madame Lala's London Revue first opened its doors in February this year, it was to test the market to see if people wanted a Revue club that avoided mainstream music.

It became apparent within a couple of weeks of opening that Madame Lala was a phenominal success with her mix of vintage, show tunes and big band swing.

Madame Lala's London Revue is pleased to be offering a regular Wednesday evening of cabaret for all those who find that Lala's at the weekend just isn't enough.

Midweek at Lala's begins today at 1pm PDT

ELTON ROCKED LONDON CITY!

The Elton John Concert in London City Regent's Park was a massive success.

Regent's Park Open Air Theatre

Before the concert began, people were flooding in to claim their spot on the dance floor. We were joined by London community regulars as well as visitors from across Second Life. A selection of camp disco filled the warm night air in this second Summer Pop Festival concert. The crowd was buzzing with excitement while we waited for Elton John to appear.

The crowd reached a fevered pitch as Elton took the stage just before 10pm UK. The applause from 100 avatars was deafening when the curtain fell to reveal Elton sitting at a fuchsia piano, supported by the lovely Eltonettes.

The bitch was back with a vengeance!

Elton entertained the SRO (standing room only) crowd with classic hits like 'The Bitch Is Back' and 'Crocodile Rock'. People danced and sang along to their favorite tunes from this icon of popular music.

The Elton John concert pulled in a record 100 avatars

London City was heaving with activity throughout the night and due to excellent asset management we were able to keep the sim online all night! This meant we were all able to party well into the night without a single glitch.

We continue our Summer Pop Festival next week with Queen. Join us in London City Saturday 16 July for this phenomenal show!
