From Linden Lab's blog: Wouldn’t it be cool if you could animate your avatar in real time? What if you could wave your arm and your avatar could mimic your motions? Or imagine if your avatar could reach out and touch something inworld or perform animations? Linden Lab is exploring these possibilities with an experimental feature called “Puppetry.”
Whilst still in alpha, your mind can run wild with where this would go as development progresses. It could end up being so much more than simple gestures, waving to your webcam and having this reflected in your SL animations. Just imagine if you could dance and have your avatar match your movements in-world. How wonderful would that be? Taking this even further, perhaps you could even group dance with one person busting their moves in real life and everyone else being animated.
This feature has tremendous potential for making avatars even more realistic and of course there is obvious comedy value too. How awesome to know that when someone flips the bird at you, they are doing it in real life too!
