Great Britain in Lockdown

We saw this coming a mile off, didn't we?

The United Kingdom begins a full National Lockdown again at a minute after midnight on Thursday 5th November.

Here in London City we are determined to make the best of it and keep spirits high with some great entertainment, concerts, parties and events.  There is nothing we can do but wait it out again. Maybe instead of thinking we are stuck at home, we should consider that we are safe at home?

Chin-up everyone.  We've been through this before and emerged. We might as well treat it as a "virtual holiday"

Join us on 5th November from 12pm SL time (8pm UK) because it is Guy Fawkes night and we will be having a wonderful virtual firework display.  Since you have the next day off work, maybe a little tipple to warm the cockles of your heart?

USA General Election

Uh oh!

So here it is, the most jaw-dropping election ever in American History as two dinosaurs fight to the death.

The 'Great Orange' against 'Tom Cruise's father in Top Gun, back from heaven'.

Who will win, Donald Trump or Joe Biden, and why do you want your candidate to win?

There will be heated debate, but this is your chance to air your feelings whilst we all await the results together.  Fierce debate is fine, but common decency is expected.

Join us from 2am SL time (10pm UK)  Good luck and may your candidate win!

I hope you get to tell me how wrong I am for the next four years, but (and my feelings have nothing to do with it),  I am absolutely certain that Trump will win.

War Of The Worlds Video

AlexeyRoshall has sent us a wonderful HD video of yesterdays Halloween Party in London City. So toggle the little cog and view in HD, it is wonderful!

We all hope you enjoy the video and please check-out Alexey Roshall's Youtube channel

Martians gatecrash Halloween Party

We did it!   We fought off those pesky Martians again.  What is it about Halloween that always makes them try in on with us here in London City?

On Primrose hill, there were a few charred Residents, but on the whole we all made it through the night, thanks to copious amounts of whisky (used for medicinal purposes only <coughs>).

Hope you had a great Halloween with us.

London City Uplifted

This will not come as a surprise to the astute regulars at London City. We were moved into the cloud two weeks ago.

We kept it quiet because we wanted to know about any issues out of the ordinary that we should report back to the Lab.  As we are sure you are aware, making this known early on, could have resulted in a lot of erroneous errors being reported, which are nothing to do with the cloud system.

What we know so far about our life in the cloud is that the region's performance and general health is exceptional and out performs the non-cloud regions.

We are actively feeding-back to the developers and they are working tirelessly behind the scenes to get the whole system perfect, with a challenging end of year target.

A couple of problem things you may have noticed during our testing is, profiles being slow to load, teleport in/out issues, and sometimes failing to attach a Hud or clothing when changing outfits in London City.

To workaround these issues, if teleport fails, walk into one of our connecting regions and try again, and the same with changing clothes.  It has never been a great idea to change outfits in a very busy region, so walking across to one of our others, is best practice anyway.

These issues are being worked on, and it is why we wanted to help with the testing phase.

We hope this answers your questions.

World Mental Health Day

Have you noticed how much more open people are about their concerns, as we all pull together to help each other through this turmoil?

If there is one benefit to this sudden new world of ours to take forward with us, it is this wonderful community spirit and support that being a Resident in Second Life, has given to us all.

All of us have been profoundly affected this year. At times our brains have felt like a burnt out old walnut, but we plough on.  World Mental Health day is for everyone, more so than ever this year.

Have a great day, and let us celebrate our solidarity and the care we have shown each other.

The Cranberries, on Saturday

Appearing in London City for the first time, we have another Tribute Premier for you.. The Cranberries.

The Cranberries were an Irish rock band. They rose to international fame in the 1990s.

The band remained active until 2018, when lead singer Delores O'Riordan, who was touring at the time, tragically drowned in her bath in a London hotel room.

Their most famous hits include, Zombie, Salvation, Dreams, Ode To My Family, When You're Gone, Pretty, Hollywood, Linger, Dreaming my Dreams and many more.

Enjoy The Cranberries show here in London City, with DJ Santis presenting Party in The Park at 12pm SL time (8pm UK) and the show an hour later at 1pm SL.

And the winner is..

Last week we asked you to vote in our fictitious Election poll, to decide who should be President.

We included one-term Jimmy Carter as the only living former president who could in theory have another term in office.

Jimmy was added as a protest vote.  A candidate you could vote for, when the alternatives were lacking.

We knew that some people would feel so strongly for Trump or Biden, that they would log Alt's to vote twice, but we seriously doubted anyone would feel so strongly to log an Alt to vote Carter.

With this in mind, these are the results of the London City, Presidential Election.

136 votes were counted before the machine jammed.. of which:

Trump: 47  (35%)
Biden : 54  (39%)
Carter: 35  (26%)

So with 39% of the votes Biden wins our election, even if some people did use some skulduggery in their voting.

It also speaks volumes that so many voted to give Jimmy another chance. Presumably they thought that neither of the real candidates is up to it.

Thanks for taking part.  Another fun poll soon!
