Building Classes in London City Sandbox

Learning to build in SL can be one of the most daunting experiences inside of this world.

Many of us find it easier to buy something ready made and often pay a lot of money for something that is actually quite straight forward to make, if only we knew how.

Ruby Jones (RubyJones) is now holding regular building lessons, twice a week on Mondays and Tuesdays in the London City Sandbox, inside the Houses of Parliament at 2.30am SL (10.30am UK).

Ruby is patient and helpful and gets a genuine thrill from passing on her skills to others.
During her research into what people needed, she discovered that far from the majority of people needing advanced lessons, they needed help and confidence in building basic prim designs.

On the day I attended it was a Beginners Class and we were all taught how to create a swing chair.

Whilst not a masterpeice I was quite pleased with the outcome.  I recommend that no one be shy about lacking the ability to build, no matter how long you have been in SL.  Ruby is endlessly kind, encouraging and gives great advice and practical demonstrations of things that all of us can make.

If you are interested in learning to build, why not pop along to the next class.   If you're really shy, you are most welcome to just watch, but I bet you get bitten by the bug and can't resist getting involved.

Why not pop along on any Monday or Tuesday at 2.30am SL and see for yourself?

Weekend in Review - March 23rd to 25th

Hello my loves...just a quick posting as I am dashing between parties in London City.  I am having to get changed in the back of a taxi as we speed through the streets.  The life of a blogger can be so hectic at times.  Thankfully, the taxi driver knows me well - he has had me in the back of his taxi a few times now...so to speak.

So anyhoo...hectic weekend.  Friday was Best in Pirate at Bar Soho and Best in Red at Madame Lala's London Revue.  Saturday was Best in Yellow at World's End pub, Best in Tart in Regent's Park and Best in Comic Book Hero at Lezbo.  And Sunday was Best in 1960s in the brand new cellar bar beneath Compton's pub and Best in Armed Forces at Lezbo.

The tribute concert on Saturday was the ever popular Tina Turner.  A stunning set, amazing performances from Tina and the band and a great audience made for an excellent night.

I had my camera with me so managed to get a few snaps.

Not a bad looking audience (from this distance)

Okay kiddies, my taxi has reached it's destination...I'll keep you posted of events.  Yeah I know you are probably at most of them, but you will doubtless be too drunk to remember what happens!  Have a good week!

Weekend in Review - March 16th to 18th

Hello my little loves!  Yes, auntie Bailey is back after a week off due to ill health (*coughs for effect and sympathy*).

For anyone who didn't know - Saturday was St Patrick's Day and that provided the inspiration for quite a lot of what took place in London City over the weekend.  We started off at Bar Soho with a Best in Patrick's contest.  You can always tell that you are in for a good time when a line up of individuals dancing includes includes a fox in a St Patrick's hat dancing a jig!

Foxy ladies and an actual fox
From there we moved on to Madame Lala's London Revue for a Best in Green contest (trust me, you will see a theme develop across the parties as we go this weekend).  More jigging ensued.  I tried to get a pic up Billy's kilt but alas all I got was a crack in my lens...

Green with envy (or too much alcohol) at Madame Lala's
For Saturday we had a special stage built in Regent's Park and a contest featuring The Dubliners.  Yes, there was more jigging.  Yes, there was more green as part of the Best in Irish contest.  There may have even been some drinking as the area had two bars for the evening.

The Dubliners on stage
The unusual suspects
And the stage was an entire pub...
Trees are green...and so were the punters
After the concert, festivities continued as the Lezbo roadshow took over the area...oddly enough with a Best in Green contest!  At least it meant people didn't have to change...though some of us did

The Lezbo clubbers
Delicious DJ Ruby and hot host Sean whip the revellers in to a frenzy

Saint Patricks Day

Irish Music, Folk Concert, Frank Carson.  What more could you wish for St. Patrick's Day?

The theme this coming weekend is Irish, through and through, (so it is), starting on Friday night at Bar Soho and Madame Lala's.

This coming Saturday, 17th March, visit London City for a fabulous Irish Party.

Billy Arentire has built a bespoke Irish setting for us all to enjoy.  Just bring yourselves... and a bottle!

Drinks will be flowing, (so they will), the fife will be playing and we'll all be singing along to famous folk music.  If you don't know the words, the just keep supping-up until you do.

Party in The Park starts at 12pm SL (7pm UK) and goes on throughout the night.

"Best in Irish costume", competition where you can win a cash prize, a free to enter raffle,  lots of great Irish freebies to enhance and intoxicate your avatar, music, dancing and black market liquor.

Special tribute appearance by the great Frank Carson who died earlier this month, plus a fabulous concert from The Dubliners at 2pm SL (9pm UK).

Number 1 in SL

The London City team is absolutely thrilled to be the most popular region on the Second Life grid.
These metrics count the unique visitor range (i.e. not return visits so cannot be fudged with bots).

Thank you to everyone who visits London City, our staff, the merchants and patrons for making it what it is.

Regent's Park, A nip and tuck

Meeting area with low collision design to reduce lag.
Working on an estate is a little like painting the Forth Bridge.

Just when you get everything the way you want it, you suddenly realise that parts of your build are getting old and that the technologies applied at the time of building them, have moved on.

This was the case with the meeting area in Regent's Park, which was created for our mainland sim back in July 2010 and has served us extremely well since, even surviving a move to the London City estate last year.

However, we are all human creatures striving for excellence and embracing change.  So it is with pleasure that today we reveal a labour of love, the new Regent's Park infrastructure and Soho Square Touch-Up.

We hope you like it.

A new terraformed and spacial layout make the place bright and breezy.

A general tidy up in Soho Square and a brand new Bar Soho building.

Weekend in Review - March 2nd to 4th

So kiddies, we had all the usual stuff in London City over the weekend - some bawdiness at Bar Soho, an utter campfest at Madame Lala's and lots of lovely lunacy at Lezbo.  The big events were at Regent's Park on Saturday and Comptons on Sunday - where we had two live performers.

Helvis Xue was our Saturday spectacle in the park.  Always a popular singer with a good selection of songs and plenty of banter with the audience.

Helvis and audience
On Sunday at the local boozer, we had the vocal talents of Adevina Citron, who is always good value for money with her songs and wit.

Adevina on stage
In the not so humble opinion of auntie Bailey, if you are not coming to London City on a weekend, you are really missing out on the entertainment...so start planning to join us from Friday!

A popular performer, so please arrive on time to get your space on the dance floor.
