News of the Weird

Good morning from a sunny RL London, where half the country is off to get their second harpooning this morning.  Good luck if you're one of 'us'.  Take a brolly, it is bound to rain the moment we set foot out of the house!

Last night in London in Second Life, it was standing room only for the marvellous Frankie Valli and the Jersey Boys / Four Seasons.

The newsreel (below) shows some pictures of our drunken Saturday night adventure and the weeks news condensed to just 3 minutes!

Madame Bailey is down in the dungeon or as we call it, Substation Sunday from 11am SL time (7pm UK) with CoffeeQueen and her famous running buffet of music.  At 1pm SL time, join Katty on the Beach in a drunken stupor playing cool hits to chill to.

VE Day and Bank Holiday

Today is Victory in Europe Day.

This VE day commemorates the 76th anniversary of defeating Germany's aspiration for world dominance, for the second time in the same century.

On 8th May 1945, Prime Minister Winston Churchill announced on the radio that the second war in Europe had come to an end, following Germany's surrender the day before.

We hope you will celebrate VE day with us in Second Life.  Events begin at 11am PDT (7pm UK with Worlds End and then Party in the Park at 12pm PDT.

Weekend Gossip

Well here we all are. The morning after the night before and we lived through our hangovers. Congratulations!

Last night Karen Carpenter tried her best to get us all maudlin, but she hadn't figured on us being innoculated thanks to an hour of cheery tunes beforehand.

Here are some pictures of the party, but first, catch up on the news. The only broadcast you ever need to here.   See you at Substation at 11am PDT (7pm UK) and at The Worlds End Beach party at 1pm SL.

The Queen's 95th Birthday

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth is 95 today.  There will be no gun salute to mark the Queen’s birthday as she continues to mourn the loss of her beloved husband of 72 years, the Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

The "Year of celebration" event which included 95th Birthday coins from the royal Mint and collectables, all planned before the death of the Duke, are now understood to have been cancelled.  It is the first time that the Queen's Birthday will not be acknowledged or celebrated in any official form.

Problems returning to a region?

If you are one of those affected by Teleport failures when returning to a region you have previously visited during your session, it appears increasingly likely that it is due to your Antivirus software,  in particular, Malware Bytes.

Maestro Linden writes on  BUG-229871

Per the findings in the comments thread, it appears that this issue is caused by Malwarebytes interfering with the viewer's connection to the simulator. I recommend either relying  [on] different antivirus software than Malwarebytes or follow Lucia's instructions to explicitly whitelist the SL viewer

This may also affect other AV software and/or other 3rd party viewers.

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh

Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has died at the age of 99, Buckingham Palace has said.

A statement from the Palace said: "It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen has announced the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

"His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle."

Great Britain will now begin a period of national mourning, until the day of the Duke's funeral, the longest serving consort to a monarach, in history.  The Duke would have had his 100th Birthday in June.

The Duke, who hated “fuss” and took a no-nonsense approach to life, had planned a royal ceremonial funeral, rather than a State funeral, giving him the same status as Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother.

Buckingham Palace has indicated that it will be a revised funeral in accordance with coronavirus restrictions and the Prince's wishes.  Current legislation limits funerals to 30 members.  The funeral is likely to take place in one weeks time.

For those would like to mark the passing of the Prince in Second Life, a black armband is available in the meeting area.
