The Saturday Concert: Dorothy Squires

It's that time again - the weekend is upon us and that means another Saturday concert.

The party starts with World's End at 11am SLT (7pm UK) with DJ Katty and hostess Coffee.  

At noon SLT (8pm UK) it's time for the Party in the Park.  This week's concert features the legendary Welsh chanteuse, Dorothy Squires.  Famous not only for her singing talent, she was also well known in the courts as a vexatious litigant (filing 30 court cases in 15 years) and was married to James Bond star, Roger Moore.

Join us on Saturday 25th January for another brand new concert!

The party starts with World's End on tour with DJ Katty and hostess Coffee at 11am SLT (7pm UK).  We then switch over to the Party In The Park at noon SLT with DJ Jodie and hostess Katty.  This week's concert features English singer, songwriter, record producer, author and television host, Elvis Costello.

Burns Night at Madame Lala's

The 25th of January marks Burns Night - when we commemorate the life of Scotland's most beloved bard, poet and lyricist, Robert Burns.

At Lala's we will be hosting our traditional Burns Night supper on Friday 24th from 1pm SLT, featuring Scottish music artists, bagpipes and the address to the haggis.

London Pride, ABBA and The Parade!

PRIDE reaches its crescendo this  weekend with ABBA and The Wearable motor Pride Parade!

The amazing ABBA show comes to London City this Saturday for Party in The Park.

Singing all their top tunes, this most famous band of all time will have your avatars dancing in the aisles.

Classic Disco at 12pm SL (8pm UK) and the main concert is at 1pm SL (9pm UK). Claim your space on the dance floor early!

On Sunday:
Pride Parade at 10am SL (6pm UK)
To be in the Parade is easy, all you need is a fabulous outfit and a wearable car or van to parade around the streets of London.  Funnier the better, so get your sequined thinking caps on!

Restart Problems on Tuesday

We are sorry for what seemed like continual restarts on all four of our regions at various times for most of yesterday.

As is normal on Tuesdays, the Second Life Servers were rolled for update, but unexpectedly also rolled all of the Release Candidate servers too, placing them on the main channel by accident.

A second roll was later performed to hopefully correct this error, but unfortunately it then placed the estate on the incorrect RC channel, After a third and final roll the estate finally went back to the correct server.

Each roll resulted in approximately 30 minutes of down time per region and effected not only our visitors ability to enter London City but also caused disruption to ongoing events.

We are sorry for this disruption, but it was beyond our control, and we are pleased to let you know that everything is now resolved.

London City - Officially SL11B

THE EMPIRES OF THE FUTURE...

The opening of Second Life's largest community event is just one day away. It seems like only yesterday we were at the closing events of SL10B and now here we are a year later about to celebrate the opening of SL11B, Second Life's Eleventh Birthday.

 



 

This years event features the best and brightest that Second Life has to offer, and we are pleased that London City has been counted among them. The only London in Second Life asked to participate at the Official SL11B event, the London City Exhibit is based on a bright and prosperous future.

Of course, being the only London chosen to exhibit did present some pressures but we happily rose to the challenge. It was great to be able to build in confidence knowing that those who abused their Second Life Birthday parcel last year to grief us were excluded from participation this year.

The build began with a concept and quickly took on a life of it's own. Growing and changing to become what we feel exemplifies this years theme, "The Empires Of The Future Are The Empires Of The Mind".

 

As part of the SL11Big Hunt, we have not one but TWO free gifts for you. These items were created by London Brand exclusively for London City's Exhibit. But you'll have to wait until tomorrow when the regions officially open before you can get your hands on these one of a kind items.

Eurovision Song Contest the Video Review

Congratulations to Austria this year for winning the Eurovision Song Contest with their artiste Conchita, the bearded lady.

British entry Molly was Smitten-Downes with a sore throat just one day ahead of the contest and there was a worry that at one point she would use the rhythm method and pull out just ahead of the contest, but on the night, like the true star she isn't, she sang her heart out and sailed into obscurity securing just 40 points landing us in 17th position.

We last won Eurovision 17 years ago in 1997 with Love Shine a Light by Katrina and the Waves. 

This is the longest gap ever for us since last winning.  We've even tried rolling out the big guns in recent years with class acts such as Queen Victoria's favourite, the 79 year old Engelbert Humpadink and ever tuneful Bonnie Tyler.  Some of us fear that until we wheel out Cilla Black on a gurney, we shall not win again.

The Weekend in Video Review

Hi De Hi Campers

The London City Team are easily identifiable by their stylish Yellow Coats, although on occasion you may find them wearing Red or Union Jack.

These Sport Outfits were created specifically for London City and are only available to members of Staff. Should you need help during your visit you need only find one of our Yellow Coats who will happy assist.

Our Resident Cordon Bleu Chef, Bert Green, has a special treat for you today. Spaghetti Bolognese and chips. And don't forget the Knobbly Knees Competition by the Olympic sized swimming pool and Italian Night in the Hawaiian Ballroom.

St. Marks On The Park

Continuing festivities with a very special Choral Service at St. Marks On The Park.

We enjoyed a performance by The Salvation Army whilst sipping mulled wine and sampling other delectable treats from the spread lay out by Coffee Queen.
