The Fabulous London City review

Well, London  City  its  been a while,  that's  the last time  I  use  Lindo-Print  to get  my  photo's developed....it took 3 weeks.... on  the  plus  side I have 3 weeks  of  pure  unadulterated  excitement and  fun to report  on  ....

So,  the story so far...

We  are  celebrating  London  City's  4th  Birthday, wow  4 years  on  I can't  believe it, it's  zoomed  by,  and  London City  goes from strength  to  strength, the forefront  of innovation, fun, new  ideas, and  the best entertainment  in  Second  Life.

Every Saturday Regents Park plays  host to  a  LIVE open  air concert, free and  open  for everyone.
Over  the last 3 weeks we have  seen  the  likes  of  (  are  you sitting  down  for  this  ? )
1. Tom  Jones, 2.The Beach Boys,3.The Drifters...can  you  believe  it ... I know !!!!

Tom  Jones  on stage  to  roars and  screams  form  the crowd, we love a bit  of  Tom, its been well over a year since  he's been to  London with his busy schedule.

He arrived  on  stage... with That Hair,  That Hip Shaking Wiggle, That Voice... no wonder all  the ladies swooned.

Tom Jones, ( no relation ) born Thomas  John  Woodward in  June 1940 in Wales.
Tom, has sung from many genre over  the years  from  Pop, Rock, R&B,Show Tunes,  Country, Dance, Soul and  Gospel, and  has  sold  over  100  million records.

Next  up  The Beach  Boys, American  Rock band  from California,  in  1961, they are best known for  reflecting Southern California  youth  culture  of surfing, cars  and  romance in their  lyrics.

The  first time to  London City,  they went down  a storm, helping  us  celebrate  our 3rd  birthday.

Relax...That's  not a Beach  Boy  on  fire, it's  one  of  our  birthday candles. I wish  I'd  known  before calling  999.

Last but by  no means  least,  The  Drifters,  second  time  in  London  City.
They are an American  Do-wop and  R&B vocal  group, formed  in 1953.

Playing some  of  their  awesome  hits we all  know  and  love, think  you don't know any  of  their tunes  guess again... we all sang along to  "Save  The Last Dance  For  Me", "There Goes  MY Baby" "Under The Board Walk" and  many  more.

More fun in  London City during  the heatwave, we all  cooled  down  in  the  pool right in  the hub  how refreshing.

That's all from  me  this week, I'll see you  next time for  more  fun and  frolics  in  London  City.... number 1 destination  in Second  Life.

DEAD ROAD - The World Premier on Sunday

London City in Second Life presents the World Premiere of Dead Road, a Second Life Film.

Dead Road is the story of a terminally ill woman (Zarah Minx) and her doctor (Felix Bunkenstein) desperately seeking salvation in a crumbling, apocalyptic world.

Pursued by a deadly assassin and hunted by a ruthless vampire clan, Zarah and Felix fight their way to a better place in a sexy, action packed roller coaster of gratuitous violence and intrigue, a tribute to the grindhouse/exploitation genre and its revivalist film makers.

Written and Directed by Bunky Snowbear (Dr. Noob, Griefbusters) and starring London City’s Evie Falconer, Dana Luckless and a cast of familiar locals, Dead Road will change your perceptions of Second Life machinima.

London City in Second Life will be hosting the World Premiere of Dead Road at Comptons Pub on Sunday 28th July 2013 at 7amSLT (3pm UK time).

Everyone is  welcome, so frock up and come along to be among the first people on the planet to see it! (refreshments available at the bar)

We're Not Half Baked at London City

London City Estate has just got Server Side Baking.

So, is this the biggest over-hyped sensation since the Millennium Dome, The Emperors New Clothing and Mesh Graphics... or one of the modern miracles that offers the solution to those horrid Ruth's and that sodding gesture about seeing grey people?

We've only just got it, so anything is possible.. but behind the scenes we did a lot of testing and we're hoping that the literally thousands of you who visit us every day get to see each other a lot quicker, even if everything else takes its usual time.

Nikolish viewed on Singularity SSB
Apparently if you clear your cache, logon and go make a coffee it is truly spectacular.

Check out Nikolish here, rendered in quite nicely :)  He's a photographer with a gallery and store in London City.  See his superb work by visiting here: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/London%20City/196/46/24

Server Side Baking Blues?

Going from Phoenix to Singularity SSB?
For information about customising FIRESTORM see the Resources Tab above, 3rd story down

So you have made the leap from Phoenix to Firestorm?   Well done you!

If you haven't.... or you cannot get to grips with Firestorm despite my wonderful article in "Resources", then Singularity with SSB may well be the cure for what ails you!

Firestorm is very much like Phoenix when set to the Phoenix mode.  You can customise it even more closely with my settings, but it does still lack some functionality that was enjoyed in Phoenix.
Little things, but annoying things.. Keyword alerts not working in background, UUID not supported in Estate and Local access listing, bad highlighting in edit, strange editor for scripting, Radar needing to be clicked 3 times to make it alphabetical, inability to view/moderate group chat by who has spoken most recently, non proportional tab widths in chat etc etc.

Singularity is the closest viewer you will get to the old Phoenix viewer.  It is virtually identical and the only differences I have spotted are on the radar button, otherwise it seems the same, which is hardly surprising considering both viewers were forked from Snowglobe.

However, they both share the same bug, which is the inability to point their settings away from:
C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife and try as I might I cannot get phoenix to point to "phoenix" and singularity to point to "singularity" in the directory above, it seems that "secondlife" is hardcoded into the settings.

It doesn't matter too much, unless you use both viewers!   If you use both viewers, expect some strange results as one will corrupt the "per user" settings on the other, or you will find Singularity does all the logon stuff and the very instant you think you have arrived in-world, it quits to desktop.   Phoenix on the other hand will dump many of the tweaks you have added, like keyword alerts, auto-responses etc.

My advice is to use either Phoenix or Singularity and NEVER both on your system at a time.

If you are moving from Phoenix to Singularity (or want to give Singularity a thorough road test) here's how:

Remove the desktop shortcut.. You don't want to undo all your hard work by accidently launching Phoenix!

Since Phoenix is now defunct as it will not support SSB and Singularity supports Server Side Baking, my work around was to rename the directory to C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife-phoenix to mothball my old settings and chats (which I can copy across later).   Now on starting Singularity, I can be assured that only Singularity is using the directory C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife thus preserving my settings from corrupting.

If for any reason I find that Singularity is unworkable for me and I want to return to Phoenix from where I left off, I can safely delete C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife  and rename C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife-phoenix back to C:\users\yourname\appdata\roaming\secondlife

By following the steps in the Firestorm guide (See the Resources Tab at the top of this page), you can also copy across the old Phoenix fonts and make the viewer absolutely identical!

I am told that you can copy the language files from Phoenix too if English is not your native language.

Happy fiddling!

PS: If rezzing is slow and grey forever, go to the Network tab and uncheck "Use HTTP for Textures"

Tom Jones on Saturday

Tom Jones is a busy man.  It has been well over a year since he last appeared in London City, but has gone out of his way to fit us in again on account of it being the month of our 3rd Birthday.

Tom who is a sort of cross between Engelbert Humpadink and Elvis shot to fame in the 1960's as Britains hottest export to the USA.

His most famous songs include, The Green Green Grass of Home, Thunderball, Delilah, Thunderball, Kiss, Sexbomb.... the list goes on and on.

So be sure to catch Sir Tom this Saturday in London City.   Party starts at 12pm SL (8pm UK) with Sir Tom strutting his stuff, an hour later at 1pm SL, here  http://slurl.com/secondlife/London%20City/113/109/24

The Fabulous London City Review

5am    Fireworks

Plus Win 2000L for Best in Pride Theme

Can  you believe  it all in one full fun packed day.
In Real  life, thousands of people joined the Pride parade through central London.

The parade began in Baker Street, passing through Oxford Street, Piccadilly and Trafalgar Square before ending at Whitehall.

Organisers said this could be the biggest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender event in London over the last decade.

The theme this year is Love and Marriage to coincide with MPs considering the Equal Marriage Bill.

In SL, people arrived  in  regents  park early, ready to party and  win  huge amounts of  money, the whole London City sim was buzzing.

Gay pride or LGBT pride is the positive stance against discrimination and violence toward lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people to promote their self-affirmation, dignity, equality rights, increase their visibility as a social group, build community, and celebrate sexual diversity and gender variance.

First up .... Judy Garland, born  Francis  Ethel  Gumm, June 10th 1922, her career spanned 40 years, she was  as Fred  Astaire put it  "The Greatest  Entertainer That Ever  Lived".

Most  identified  for her role in Wizard  Of Oz, Judy sang her heart  out,  fabulous show tunes and a vibrancy on  she  could bring to the days  entertainment.

XXL,  fun  up beat tunes and  best dancer  on the poles, what a hoot, medics  on stand by  for  sore chaffing, people had a whale of  a time  sliding  up and down the poles for all  they were worth.

People joined  us from  all  over, ready to party, and have a great time .

Next up  Cher , born Cherilyn Sarkisian, May 20, 1946) is an American singer and actress. Cher took  to  the  stage, "nearly"  wearing  her signature one piece ...  the crowd roared as  she sang a medley  of  her  hits  that spanned   nearly half a century and she's  still going strong.

Later  Pans  people  took  to  the stage  and  displayed  their  own  unique version  or expressive dance.

Pan's People was a British TV dance troupe, most usually associated with the BBC TV music chart show Top of the Pops.

In an era before pop videos, they danced to songs whose original artists were not available to perform them live.

They were not the first dance troupe to appear regularly on Top of the Pops; they were preceded by The Go-Jos in the programme's first four years, before Pan's People replaced them in May 1968. They did not start off with weekly appearances, but they had become an almost-weekly feature of the programme by early 1970.

Then juiced brought the evening to a close with fireworks  and  an array  of  upbeat  trance music, with yet more Linden cash  to win.

All  in all  we had  a fantastic time, meeting  a whole array  of  new people, and  our  regulars for  this fantastic  day.
London City  is  the  top  destination  in SL,  we strive to bring  you bigger and better each week and we deliver..... make  London City  your  number  1  venue.... we look forward to seeing  you again.

That's all from  me  this week,  I'll  see you  for  more  fun and frolics  in  the awesome  London  City .... accept no imitations xxxx
